Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody

Chapter 460: Kingdom of the Flying Dragons 🐉 in the Black Dragon Mountain Range

I corrected a typo on 2016/3/27.

This is Satou. When playing computer RPGs, it's common for NPCs' dialogues to change as the scenario progresses. Sometimes, I want to blurt out, "You should've said that at the beginning!"

◇

"U-um, as expected, fighting with Kuro is enjoyable."

"Ah, I worked up a good sweat too."

Since Heilong, the black dragon who had arrived at the Black Dragon Mountain Range, wanted to battle me again after a long time, I created an otherworld copied from the Black Dragon Mountain Range and conducted a mock battle.

The black dragon side was allowed to use breath and fangs, so I wonder where the 'mock' part of the battle was, but I came out unscathed. The black dragon's extremities were somewhat blown off, so it's probably fine.

Once again, I ended up breaking one of the black dragon’s fangs, but I swear to the heavens it wasn’t on purpose.

The black dragon flew right into the demon blade cannon I fired as a warning shot.

I’m really glad I didn’t use the guillotine-type demon blade cannon meant for securing ingredients.

"The bleeding has stopped, but the fang won't grow back."

"That’s fine. Eat lots of goats and whales, sleep plenty, and it'll grow back soon."

Just as the black dragon laughed heartily, the fang that had supposedly been broken earlier had already regrown before today’s fight.

It’s strange because it was said to take years.

While talking about such things, we returned to Liza, who was watching from the safe zone at the edge of the domain.

"I'm back, Liza."

"Master――"

Huh? I thought Liza would be happy about watching the battle with the black dragon, but her expression was stiff.

Could it be that she didn’t appreciate such a playful fight with the black dragon?

"――Thank you very much for your guidance!"

With a sharp sound, Liza dropped to one knee and started speaking seriously.

"Master's teaching never to be complacent after defeating a low-rank dragon has been etched into my mind. A true battle between strong opponents is truly astonishing."

Liza looked up at me with dreamy eyes.

Indeed, although the low-rank dragon Bowryu and the black dragon are of similar level, their combat powers are totally different.

Even their breath attacks differ greatly: a slow flame breath that can be dodged by sight versus a high-power laser breath that requires instant short-distance teleportation to avoid after sensing the sign.

Moreover, the physical attacks from the black dragon’s massive body can reshape the mountain terrain, and it fires complex spells rapidly with short chants.

Even in the recent mock battle, I struggled against the barrage-like new spells the black dragon unleashed from its mouth.

"You’ll become strong enough to fight the black dragon someday too, Liza."

"Do you really think I can?"

'Impossible――'

Before I could answer, "Of course," the black dragon cut in.

Because I had cast a translation spell for our conversation during the trip to the Black Dragon Mountain Range, Liza could also understand the black dragon’s words.

"That's not true."

'Kuro, it’s impossible.'

The black dragon denied my supportive words again.

'With that weapon, she cannot injure me.'

Saying so, the black dragon took the magic spear from Liza's hand.

Of course, the black dragon’s sharp claws would damage the spear, so it was wrapped in a glowing cloud-like magical barrier before being lifted.

'Hmm, it seems you’re repeating strengthening using the "Primordial Monster" material as the core, but this will not break my scales. Even scratching the surface is a struggle.'

The current Demonic Spear Doma is coated in adamantite, so I think it could damage unprotected scales, but the scales of a black dragon in combat are guarded by multiple layers of powerful magic, so even with the demon blade, Liza can't break them.

—At least, not yet.

'Only a dragon’s weapon can harm a dragon—of course, there are exceptions like my friend Kuro.'

I wonder if Pochi, who wields the Holy Sword Excalibur, could hurt it?

With a holy spell attached, it might be possible.
