This is Satou. It’s nice having opportunities to eat special dishes like grilled eel on the midsummer day of the ox or pumpkin on the winter solstice—things we don’t usually eat. Although Valentine’s chocolates are a bit controversial...

◇

A wyvern appeared in the sky above the forest.

Its target wasn’t us but the horned serpent. It completely ignored us and dove straight at the serpent’s defenseless body.

The horned serpent, which had been relentlessly attacking Nana, seemed to notice the wyvern attacking from above, stopped its assault, and turned its scythe-like head toward the wyvern.

“Liza, leave this one to me.”

“Yes! Pochi, Tama, keep your distance. Arisa, Mia! Attack with magic while the horned serpent is still stationary.”

We hit the wyvern with a rare “short stun” spell from the side.

It clearly hadn’t expected an attack from us and took the magic head-on, crashing through trees as it fell into the forest.

This wyvern’s wingspan was nearly 10 meters. Its body shape was more like a pteranodon or a dinosaur than a dragon. The poisonous stinger at the tip of its tail was typical of a fantasy wyvern.

The horned serpent had been cut halfway through its torso by Arisa’s spatial severing «dimension cutter» spell, blood spraying everywhere. Mia’s “water cutter” followed shortly after, but it seemed to be resisted and scattered on the serpent’s surface.

The seriously injured serpent tried to flee.

Of course, Liza and the others wouldn’t let it escape.

“Nana, don’t let the horned serpent get away.”

“Roger. Snake, the kabayaki preparation is complete!”

Thanks to Nana’s subtle taunting and the barrier wall Arisa placed on its escape route, the horned serpent was trapped. Liza’s demonic spear and the small demonic swords wielded by Pochi and Tama attacked alternately, aiming at Arisa’s wounds.

Then, as the serpent’s movements slowed from blood loss, Nana’s sword, enhanced by “sharp blade,” pierced its mouth, stopping it.

“Yeah! Yeah!” “Oh yeah!”

Pochi and Tama cheered victoriously atop the serpent, but it was still too early.

“Pochi, Tama, don’t lose focus. Nana, reapply enhancement magic. Arisa, Mia, do you have enough magic power?”

Liza gave orders as we prepared for the next fight.

They were surprisingly reliable.

Since Nana and Liza, who handled the front, had slight injuries, I healed them with the “light healing” spell.

◇

A little later, a monstrous roar echoed deep in the forest. It seemed the wyvern was finally waking. I was on alert, wondering if it used magic through its roar like the demon race, but it was just a normal cry.

The wyvern’s advantage is flight.

So I thought it would head to the lakeshore to gain speed for takeoff—

“Hey, isn’t that a wyvern?”

“Sure is~”

“It’s hopping!”

The wyvern alternately kicked off two trees to climb upward, then took flight. It even used the claws on its hands to accelerate while climbing.

I handed crossbows to Pochi, Tama, and Lulu. They were originally designed for fighting wyverns. Time to put them to use.

The wyvern circled in the air, gathering speed, then descended from the opposite side of the lake to attack. Rather than a direct charge, it glided low over the water along the lakeshore.

“Mia, if the wyvern reaches that bush, use ‘balloon’ to knock it upward. The three of you aim for its wings — the right wing, ideally. Arisa, use the spatial severing spell on the wings as before. You can cut them off if possible.”

Liza issued instructions to everyone.

Before, Arisa gave orders, but she’d stop when concentrating on magic, so Liza took over.

I prepared “magic hand” and “flexible shield” spells.

Normally, I wouldn’t intervene, but this wyvern was level 33, a formidable opponent compared to the level 24 horned serpent, so I was ready to support at any moment.

As the wyvern approached the bush, suddenly engulfed in expanding steam, its posture wavered. The timing was a bit late, so it didn’t completely lose balance.
