Today, I’m posting five chapters at once.
This is the second chapter in the series.
As soon as I arrived at the abandoned mine, I mobilized all the slimes except for the cleaners to patrol the mine shafts. Then, I tidied up the shaft located at the highest point of the mine and, as declared, converted it into a workshop.
That said, since the shaft was already quite spacious, all I did was mass-produce simple workbenches using earth magic—so it wasn’t a particularly difficult task.
I placed bricks at both ends of the stretched cloth, then dug grooves at the corners of the table.
Next, I prepared sticks that fit perfectly into the grooves and fixed them in place.
Then I used the sticky slime’s adhesive to attach both ends of the cloth to the sticks.
I repeated this process 45 times.
After that, all I had to do was instruct the sticky slimes to apply more adhesive to the fixed cloth.
The only things to watch out for were insects or magical beasts that might appear during work. I might eventually put a door or something here…?
While thinking about renovations, I gave instructions to the sticky slimes.
After observing for a while, the workbenches were functioning properly. The slimes were diligent.
With that settled, there was nothing left for me to do. If this were a shop, there would be some clerical work at least…
Since I was feeling restless, I decided to do some training.
Three hours later.
I went through some basic martial arts training and meditation, but the cloth still wasn’t completely dry.
So, I decided to have the slimes train as well.
I recalled that I had recently learned staff techniques and spear techniques.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, I used alchemy to dry some wood from outside. Then, using a circular saw and polish, I processed the wood to create a large number of staffs and tamper spears. This way, I could have the slimes practice both staff and spear techniques.
...The slime training also came to a pause. However, the cloth still needed more time to dry. Perhaps the fabric was still absorbing moisture? This was the first time I had tried such large pieces of cloth…
Feeling restless again, I absentmindedly glanced at my status board.
“Oh, my mana recovery speed level has increased by one and is now level 3. Maybe all the magic I used for setting up the shop helped? Also, my levels in beast taming magic, alchemy, wind magic, and lightning magic each went up by one. I did use those quite a bit... Oh, come to think of it, the young lady said she wanted to see the doll I made. Should I make it now? The materials can just be soil from around here, and I can make whatever…”
“‘Create Block,’ ‘Rock,’ ‘Break Rock.’”
I prepared some stone and simple tools. Using Break Rock, I roughly shaped the core…
“‘Playing Clay.’”
I turned the soil into clay and used it as putty for the figure. After applying it over the core, I refined the details with tools. Come to think of it, I still had some lime left. I’d use it for coating before coloring.
Illuminated by the light spell, I was alone in the mine shaft. Using magic as needed, I made a nondescript doll to pass the time.
...That was the plan, at least.
“All right! …I’ve made quite a few.”
Before I knew it, I was surrounded by dolls.
“What time is it now? …Ugh!”
Dusk was approaching!
In a panic, I gathered the dolls and the dried cloth and headed back.
…It seemed I’d overused my mana and was a bit exhausted. But I had no choice but to hurry if I wanted to return before sunset. …I’d better avoid getting absorbed in tasks inside the mine shaft. I tend to lose track of time easily, and this only makes it worse.
Reflecting on that, the sun steadily set as I ran, forced to repeatedly use spatial magic until I reached the town.
“Tired…”
I somehow reached the inn before night fully fell.
After resting a bit, I visited the young ladies’ room to report, and Mr. Alone guided me there.
“Welcome, Mr. Ryoma.”
“It’s rare for Ryoma-kun to come to our room on his own. Did something happen?”
