Magical Beast Subjugation: Day 3

The day before yesterday, I incapacitated some delinquent adventurers, and yesterday, there were numerous injuries due to the Goblin King incident. Thanks to that, the progress of the monster extermination is reportedly behind schedule.

Because of what happened yesterday, my team was disbanded. Mr. Jeff and the others were each leading low-rank adventurers to ensure safety and provide guidance.

As for me, I didn’t need any guidance, but since my rank was low and I had just become an adventurer, it was a bit risky to have me lead others. So, I went hunting alone with my slime companions.

Cave bats and small rats could easily be caught by having sticky slimes spit adhesive liquid onto sticks or spread it on the sticks and swing them around, like flypaper. The cave mantis was effortlessly taken down from outside the range of its sickle by a poison slime wielding a spear, then devoured as prey.

These slimes, after all the training, have gained individual strength along with numerical superiority... Watching them fight the cave mantis reminds me of something—a game that was once very popular on Earth. The theme song was laid-back, but the lyrics had a strangely grim tone.

I had enough leisure to think about such things while diligently working.

The morning’s work ended without any particular incident. Well, if something like yesterday happened every day, that would be troublesome.

I spotted five goblins once, but there were no others with them. When I reported it, they said they were probably survivors from the destroyed village yesterday, and that was that.

In the afternoon, I experimented with fighting methods for the sticky slime.

For example, I had one stick to the ceiling and extend its body downward, dangling as it moved through the tunnel. Because the cave bats were so annoying flying around, I had the slime imitate flypaper. And it worked perfectly—bats stuck, got caught, and were eaten.

Then I instructed the most dexterous sticky slime to turn its body into a net right after jumping—and it succeeded.

Next, I grabbed that slime and threw it at a flying cave bat. The slime turned into a net midair, trapping several bats as it fell to the ground.

I repeated this with another sticky slime. And again. On average, it caught four or five bats each time.

This could be very useful! Sticky slimes are incredibly convenient! They can do a wide range of things—useful both in battle and daily life.

Excited, I continued hunting small magical beasts with the sticky slimes until work hours ended.

By evening.

After work, I took a shared horse-drawn carriage back to town, but just as we entered, the carriage wheel broke. Fortunately, no one was hurt; the carriage just suddenly broke, causing a violent shake. Since it would be dangerous to continue traveling like that, the passengers, including me, had to walk home from there.

The town was darkening, and the scent of dinner wafted from somewhere—probably nearby eateries. Some had already started drinking, and cheerful voices could be heard occasionally. I was enjoying the atmosphere as I walked and passed by Mr. Serge’s Morgan Trading Company shop.

…Come to think of it, I was saved yesterday thanks to the mana recovery potion Serge gave me… Maybe I can also check out the bags they use as a standard for laundry. I’ll drop by.

Casually entering the shop, I quickly found Mr. Serge.

He was talking with a female clerk at the counter, but upon seeing me, he immediately smiled, greeted me, and led me to the reception room.

If I were working, I could have just waited looking at the goods in the storefront...

“Welcome, Lord Ryoma. What brings you here today?”

“The mana recovery potion you gave me the other day really helped with yesterday’s request, so this is a token of thanks. Also, there’s something I wanted to buy, but I don’t know any better shops.”

“I’m glad our product was useful. It’s an honor you chose our shop to look for what you need. What may I help you with?”
