The Next Morning
After finishing the inspection of the experimental site, I returned to Gimul. Standing on the grassland, the familiar town lay to my left, and the new town, whose construction was well underway, stretched out to my right. Watching the people moving back and forth between them, I felt a true sense of coming home.
…Oops, I can’t just stand here forever.
“Sorry to keep you waiting~ We’ve arrived!”
“That was only a few minutes. Doesn’t really count as waiting.”
“Spatial magic sure is convenient. I wish I could learn it too.”
Mr. Sebas and Lord Rosenberg had parted ways at the experimental site to head to the Duke's household, so this time, I used spatial magic to bring the others along. Since there were many of us, I had them enter the dimension home first, so I felt like the driver of a shuttle bus.
“By the way, was there any trouble inside? Were the familiars alright?”
“Nothing in particular. We weren’t there long anyway, and the owner's familiars are pretty well-behaved.”
“That’s true. Also, the magical beast cub from the Tree Sea was adorable, nya.”
“Yeah, that little one was really friendly.”
The child Miya and the others were talking about was Rino, a baby cannonball rhino we rescued in the Shurus Great Tree Sea.
When I returned from the Tree Sea, I brought Rino back inside the dimension home. I consulted Taylor, the branch chief of the Gimul Tamer Guild, about how to care for him. He said:
“Sorry, but there’s very little information on cannonball rhinos. They’re magical beasts that basically don’t leave the depths of the Tree Sea, so capturing a live one and bringing it outside is really tough. There have been occasional wanderers in the past, so it’s not zero, but I’d have to research more to know the details.
For now, I think it’s best to ‘let him get used to the environment inside the dimension home’ first. Sudden environmental changes can cause anxiety and health issues for both humans and magical beasts.
You might want to take him outside or to various places, but I recommend doing that only after he recognizes the dimension home you use to move him as a ‘safe place.’”
...With that valuable advice, apart from refreshment or necessary errands, Rino has been spending most of his time inside the dimension home.
Looking back, most magical beasts I’ve contracted with have high environmental adaptability: slimes, limule birds that migrate, and goblins that survive in any environment. This reminded me of the often-forgotten necessity of patiently waiting for adaptation.
I did think about it a bit when I contracted with Clever Chicken before... but those guys complain relentlessly if it’s cold in winter or hot in summer, demanding improvements...
Eventually, they decided the constant temperature inside the dimension home was the most comfortable. Now, they spend their days in their own space eating, sleeping, or leisurely playing board games—a real shut-in lifestyle. That’s bold in its own way; in a sense, they’re highly adaptable... I should treat Kohaku (the cushioning) well next time.
Anyway,
“If they’re not afraid of meeting Miya and the others for the first time, it might be a good time to let them out little by little.”
“They could run around if they wanted, but since there are other magical beasts and considering that little one’s energy, it might be a bit cramped. So, I agree with that.”
“I’ll coordinate with the Tamer Guild and try it out.”
“Well then, let’s get going. No point standing here chatting.”
Jeff was already heading toward the gates of Gimul, so we followed him toward the town.
After entering, we first went to the Adventurers’ Guild to report on completing the escort requests. After that, we disbanded.
Left in front of the guild were just me, Mr. Eudam, and Ms. Eleonora.
“So, what now? We hadn’t really decided anything after returning to town.”
“If it’s alright, I’d like to continue the return report and handover with Lord Calm. But that depends on his availability... What about you, Lord Takebayashi?”
