Today, two chapters are posted simultaneously.
This is the second chapter.
“Hmm, there are still quite a few.”
Peering down the cliff, just as Lord Reinbach said, the number of undead below had clearly decreased. However, since the original amount was so large, even though they had “decreased,” there were still roughly several hundred left.
The remaining undead moved sluggishly, with some no longer regenerating, so it was clear they were weakened. But the fire’s intensity was already fading, and with fewer numbers, there was enough space for them to move around freely. At this rate, the fire would have difficulty spreading, so its effect was unlikely to be significant.
“It’s much better than at first. Let’s take our time and steadily, but also casually, take them down.”
“Then, as planned, the slimes and I will secure the landing zone for everyone.”
“Thank you. Once the location is secured, we’ll join in as well.”
I think oxygen won’t be a problem since the wind is passing through, but to deal with the smoke, we equipped filter slimes like masks. Also, just in case, let’s sprinkle some water on the landing area.
“Lord Ryoma, leave the water to me. ‘Waterfall.’”
Mr. Sebas chanted a word, and water in an amount enough to fill a pool suddenly poured down like a single waterfall. Below, for a moment, steam rose from the heated rock surface scorched by the earlier flames, but it quickly disappeared under the unceasing flow of water.
“Thank you!”
I expressed my gratitude briefly and gave instructions to the emperor scavenger slime. In response, the emperor acted immediately. It enlarged its body to its limit, stretched it out to the edge of the cliff, then compressed itself and forcefully leapt into the air.
Shaking in the raging wind, the emperor landed softly, using its flexible body to absorb the impact like a slow-motion rubber ball. After confirming it was unharmed, it only conveyed a sense of vigor. Even after jumping from a height equal to a five-story building, it hadn’t suffered any damage.
“I’d heard about it a little beforehand, but that slime really is unharmed after jumping from that height.”
“The emperor has incredibly high physical resistance. I once attacked it for an experiment, but it was completely ineffective.”
Magic is somewhat more effective than physical attacks, but due to its resistance and size, it’s still hard to damage. Honestly, if the emperor became an enemy, we wouldn’t know if it could be defeated. Depending on the situation and usage, it could be a very dangerous slime.
...Which is exactly why it’s reassuring to have it as an ally.
“Oh, the undead are being swallowed one after another.”
“They’re not even putting up a fight.”
Undead nearby reacted to the emperor and approached, but they were entangled by its tentacles and crushed under its overwhelming bulk. They probably resisted, but it seemed impossible to overturn the emperor’s massive size and weight.
“No particular problems so far. I think it can even split if needed, but before that, let’s have the other slimes descend.”
After confirming the emperor had formed a large mattress-like shape on the cliff below, I sent the other slimes down. One by one, the slimes jumped, landing on the emperor cushion. I followed them.
“Well then, I’m going.”
“Be careful.”
“Thank you.”
I untied my lifeline and jumped off the cliff just like the slimes. Feeling the air resistance and chill over my body, and hearing the roaring wind in my ears, I wasn’t worried.
Thanks to confirmation and experiments with the emperor’s physical resistance, I had jumped from high places many times. Although the emperor—meaning the “10,000 slimes” I command—couldn’t be used practically because only I could control it, before the end-of-year incident, we had even considered it as a rescue method, so I trusted it from experience.
Curling my knees in the air and landing on the emperor’s body with my buttocks, its body gently cushioned me. I felt no real impact and, of course, no injuries.
