Two chapters updated today.
This is the second chapter.
Three days later
This is the end.
For these three days, I barely slept or rested. Although I had some small chit-chat here and there, most of the time was spent working. When the end of such an all-nighter is in sight, the events up to today naturally come back to mind...
“This part is finished. Let’s move on.”
“Hey, how many hours do you think you’ve been working straight through?”
“The sun has already set, nya.”
“The cleaning of the septic tanks is done for two of them now. How about taking a break around here, goza-ru?”
“I still have plenty of stamina and mana. Besides, we need to finish as quickly as possible.”
“...Seems like you’re really not pushing yourself too hard...”
“That’s what I see too...”
“I agree. So there’s no reason to stop, nya. It’s true we should hurry up...”
After finishing cleaning the second tank on the first day and getting approval from Mr. Jeff and the other two, we moved locations and started cleaning again. When we came out next time, the watchmen had changed.
“Oh, you’re out.”
“You all are Miya-san’s companions...?”
“We’re Wellanna.”
“Miseria.”
“I’m Syria. We’re in charge of the night-to-morning watch. Nice to meet you, Ryoma-kun.”
“Yes, nice to meet you. By the way, this place is done. Please check it. Also, I heard that mana recovery potions were provided...?”
“They are.”
In this world, medicines are broadly divided into two types.
One uses the medicinal properties of natural herbs and stones, just like on Earth.
The other obtains medicinal effects from mana contained in materials or substances altered by mana — magical medicines. Potions are a type of magical medicine that acts quickly.
Rabbit-eared Syria used appraisal magic on me and the surrounding area, while tiger-eared Miseria took test-tube-like glass containers from a large bag. Inside was a deep green, watery liquid.
Miseria told me that one bottle would recover about 2000 mana, and warned that if my total mana exceeded the recovery amount, I could suffer from mana intoxication, a physical condition caused by overconsumption. After confirmation, I drank ten mana recovery potions at once.
“Thank you very much. Now I can move on.”
“Already? Take a break for a bit.”
“Isn’t it true that you haven’t rested even once while Miya and the others were watching? You haven’t eaten either, right? Here.”
Along with the words, Wellanna handed me a basket filled with sandwiches.
“The butler sent this from the client. Isn’t it fine to eat this before heading to the next place?”
“Butler? Could it be Sebas-san?”
“Yeah, he introduced himself as that. He knows you, right? He said you might forget to eat when you get absorbed in your work. He seemed to have other work and left, but he waited until just now.”
Although I technically had no stamina problems, I really had forgotten to eat, so I gratefully accepted. Naturally, this increased my time interacting with them.
“You received news about the illness, right?”
“The guild master said through an acquaintance that they’ll secure supplies for us by tomorrow... Still, did you really plan to work all night without rest?”
“Of course I intended to take breaks.”
“But your breaks are too short. You could rest between each tank, you know.”
“Well... to be honest, I was a little skeptical. I thought it might be too much.”
“I’m confident in my stamina. Syria-san’s doubts are understandable given my age.”
“There are plenty of stories of rookie adventurers who brag and take on jobs they can’t do, only to fail.”
“I agree. If Ryoma-kun hadn’t disclosed his status board skills, I would have been totally opposed. Giving such a risky job to a rookie adventurer with little track record, based solely on self-report, is unthinkable. But now I think he was the right person for the job.”
“Well, that’s only natural. Don’t worry about it.”
Miseria added this awkwardly, but I never expected full trust from people I just met today. Without the handy status board, I’d just look like a kid. Because... I really am just a kid now.
