Today, four chapters are updated simultaneously.

This is the fourth chapter.

The next morning

When I visited Gimul Town, the atmosphere of the town had clearly started to change from the morning.

As usual, many people were coming and going on the main street, but their expressions were somewhat brighter.

“Welcome, welcome!”

“Cheap, cheap!”

“Skewers for 5 soot each! Special price for a limited time only!”

The calls from the stalls and vendors sounded more lively than usual.

Walking further, I passed by a certain shop in an alley, and overheard:

“Good morning.”

“Oh, madam! It’s been a while!”

“Yes, lately it’s been a bit hard to come near this area…”

“Right? Recently, some unknown people were sleeping on the roadside.”

“Exactly! It’s a shame they came to work but couldn’t find jobs, but sleeping on the street is a nuisance and no one wants to get close.”

“Yes, but today there weren’t any such people, so I felt like coming back here after a long time.”

“Oh, madam, you too? Me as well!”

“Now that you mention it, I haven’t seen a single one today. There was always at least one around here lately... I wonder where they went? I hope they don’t come back though…”

The madams were all talking about not seeing the homeless laborers who had been living on the streets of the town.

As I walked on, I noticed that others were saying similar things, and some said the atmosphere of the town had improved because of it.

Those people weren’t necessarily malicious; maybe they just had no other choice and ended up there out of desperation. But still, the place where many such people gather has a different atmosphere than where they don’t, and it affects the hearts of those who see it.

By the way, the laborers who disappeared from the street corners were guided into dormitories prepared yesterday. This morning, they should each be working at the security company, garbage disposal site, and the factory built in collaboration with the Morgan Trading Company.

Certainly, those laborers had contributed to the deterioration of Gimul’s public order, but most of them—actually normally—came to Gimul seeking work, not to commit crimes.

Moreover, people have their strengths and weaknesses. Even within the security company, the required abilities differ: guards need physical strength and combat ability, while clerks need literacy and calculation skills.

From my experience, when people face severe hardship, they become anxious, lose mental composure, and their perspectives narrow. They tend to apply for any job blindly, without considering abilities or suitability.

Yesterday’s interviews were to roughly determine each person’s aptitude and place them in jobs where they could best use their skills, not to weed out applicants.

Yesterday, 546 people were hired in total.

Though the total number of unemployed laborers is unknown, those 546 now have minimum necessities and jobs. So, they likely won’t resort to crime or cause trouble in town out of desperation. I hope that’s the case.

“Alright.”

While observing the town, I arrived at the security company headquarters, my destination. In the courtyard, training for security guard candidates had already begun, and their enthusiastic voices could be heard outside.

Feeling the slight improvement in the town’s atmosphere, I felt relief and motivation for the future.

I headed to the hospital within the security company to do my part.

To deepen understanding with the medical team, whom I had just met and would be working with from now on.

Also, to discuss upcoming studies and research to ensure smooth progress!

And then…

“Ryoma-kun! Tell us more about the serum!”

“First, tell us about the medicine slime! Its ability to refine various medicinal fluids alone makes it highly useful! It could be applied in medical care in villages without doctors or areas where medical supplies are hard to obtain. The possibilities are vast!”

“I want to hear more about the nutritional supplements.”
