Chapter 216: Hasty Departure ✈️

Published: August 15, 2025

Today, two chapters are posted simultaneously.

This is the second chapter.

Two days have passed since the End of the Fishing Festival.

Since I finished shopping yesterday, today’s goal is to capture mud slime. I heard from Seerelipta that if I use mud magic, I can find them easily, but honestly, I’ve never used it before.

However, I have seen mud magic before, and I understand that it’s a combination of water magic and earth magic. Since I have used magic that combines multiple elemental magics before, I figure I can manage it if I just give it a try.

So then,

“Big brother! Over here!”

Together with Niki-kun, we came to a spot in the forest where the ground is especially muddy.

“All right. Let’s try it right away.”

Mud magic... simply put, mud is a mixture of water and earth.

Using the mana of the water elemental magic and the mana of the earth elemental magic,

I combine the two types of mana and let them seep into the muddy ground.

The magic I use is like a wave in water magic, imagining stirring the mud into waves.

If I were to give it a name,

“‘Mud Wave’!”

As soon as I activated it, small ripples appeared on the muddy ground, forming waves of mud.

They rolled up to the roots of the surrounding trees, swallowing them... It was at that moment

“Whoa!? Big brother, they’re coming out!”

“Ah… so many of them.”

The mud, stirred up by the magic, started moving unnaturally, and then small mud balls began forming one after another. Counting roughly, there were about thirty. They looked like they would collapse any second because of too much moisture, and they were nervously trying to wriggle away from us...

“Let’s catch them. Just like we planned.”

“Alright!”

The mud slime crawling on land moves just as slowly as other kinds of slime—if not slower.

Niki-kun kept scooping them up one by one, and I threw them into the jar I pulled out from the Item Box.

There were more than I expected, and a few slipped back into the mud to escape, but we still managed to catch 27 this time. When I examined them with magical beast appraisal—

“Mud Slime”

Skills: scattering lv3, condensation lv3, moisturize lv5, digestion lv1, absorption lv2, splitting lv2, assimilation (mud) lv5

“Huh…”

“Big brother, do you understand something from this?”

“Yeah, their skills are close to ash slime.”

Scattering and condensation are as expected, but instead of drying out, they have moisturize. And what’s especially notable is assimilation (mud). It’s the first time I’ve seen a skill with parentheses, but I guess it means assimilation is limited to mud.

With this, we’ve obtained a new type of slime. And since we can catch nearly 30 in just one go, maybe if we searched around a bit more, we could gather enough to evolve them into big or huge slimes.

I want to collect more if possible. When I told Niki-kun that,

“Then let’s check out other places too!”

he readily agreed.

So, the two of us ran through the forest for several hours...

Using mud magic, mud slimes were surprisingly easy to find—it was like a “feeding frenzy” in fishing. We took breaks occasionally and changed locations, trying not to overdo it, but we succeeded in capturing and contracting over 600 of them.

No matter where we used the magic, four or five always appeared, so I started to think that maybe most of the mud around here was inhabited by mud slime.

“Ah.”

“What’s up?”

“Look, over there.”

“Oh, it’s the secret base tree.”

I looked where Niki-kun pointed and saw the familiar tree from the previous runaway incident standing there.

“Wait here! I’ll be right back!”

He said that and went into the secret base at the tree’s roots.

Wondering what he was up to, I sat on a thick root extending out and waited.

After about two minutes, he came out of the hole holding something cupped in both hands.

“Thanks for waiting. Here, this is for you, big brother.”

“What’s this?”

It looked like a handful of uneven, ordinary stones.

“That’s called a ‘damp light stone’. They’re found in the mud, and when you wet them in the dark, they glow. It’s a really rare stone!”
