Today, two chapters are updated at once.
This is the second chapter.
After lunch
The mud salamander hunt had ended, and the beach, which should have emptied out, was once again filled with people. Among them were many young children and elderly folks who hadn’t been there in the morning.
The cause of this situation was... undoubtedly the 1,000 poison slimes and sticky slimes swarming at my feet. And of course, the exhausted members of Shikum’s pier standing beside them.
“How’s it going? Our slimes aren’t too bad, right?”
“Y-yeah, definitely.”
“Wait, are these really slimes!?”
“Their movements aren’t anything like the slimes I know...”
“Agreed.”
“I always thought slimes were slow, easily crushed if you hit them, and didn’t use weapons in the first place.”
Mr. Shin, Mr. Kai, Mr. Sain, Mr. Peyron, and Mr. Kei all voiced their doubts, but what stood before them were undeniably slimes.
“They became like this because I taught them various things.”
“Do you think teaching them would really lead to this...?”
“They’re way stronger than I imagined. I never thought slimes would wield spears and move with coordinated tactics.”
“More than anything, there’s so many of them.”
“Even if we try to repel them, coming at us one after another like that is overwhelming... And they’re skillful enough to avoid attacking the cores, which are the lethal spots.”
“So, Ryoma, what do you plan to do with these guys?”
Mr. Kai, good question!
“I think they can move faster than wild slimes, but mobility is still their weak point. I want them to defend the processing facility. As you saw just now, the poison slimes form multiple layers of spear walls to intercept the mud salamander’s charges, reducing their numbers.”
“I’ve also intentionally left gaps in the spear walls that are easier to slip through. If we can funnel the salamanders’ route there, we can have the sticky slimes lie in ambush. Slimes aren’t particularly strong in raw striking power, but with the weight and centrifugal force of their sticks, plus the advantage of ambush tactics, they can fight 10-to-1 or 5-to-1. If a group overwhelms them with sheer numbers, they can take them down.”
“And, even if they don’t manage to kill them outright, the salamanders will weaken from each hit. Humans can then finish them off much more easily!”
“Ah, I see...”
“You seem like a different person now.”
“Yeah, you were like this when we first met too.”
“But if it’s ambush and pincer attacks, maybe they can actually take them down.”
“Even if they don’t, reducing their numbers or slowing their momentum is enough.”
Just as Mr. Sain and Mr. Shin said.
But that’s only if the spear walls and funneling through gaps work and can be maintained.
If the spear walls fail to hold the horde, or the funneling doesn’t work, it will collapse quickly after the first wave.
For such cases, there’s another move.
“Dimension Home.”
Called out anew to the beach were the familiar six limule birds. Along with five types of magic-capable slimes: earth slime, wind slime, dark slime, light slime, and heal slime.
I mainly use magic for daily life, not so much in battle, so these guys hadn’t had many chances to shine in combat... but actually, they train diligently every day.
That’s why their abilities are solid.
“Heal slime will handle recovery. Light slime will provide support. The others will offer magical covering fire from the rear as needed.”
“I heard magic-using magical beasts are rare or high-level, but you have this many?”
“And most of them are slimes, too.”
“At this point, I’m impressed.”
I feel their eyes on me have changed... but there’s more to say!
“By the way, this dark slime here just recently learned the intermediate magic ‘Dark Mist’!”
The dark slime’s dark attribute attack magic differs from others—it doesn’t directly injure the body but instead drains life force. Dark Mist spreads this life-draining darkness in a mist over a wide area. In other words, it can take out multiple enemies at once with a single cast!... apparently.
