Today, four chapters are updated simultaneously.

This is the fourth chapter.

"Hehehe... truly a great discovery..."

Thanks to developing antibodies against poison, the poison resistance level of the bloody slime has increased.

What about disease resistance? Curious, I investigated and found that it also has antibodies against pathogens. Moreover, the variety surpasses that of poisons. The serum from the bloody slime might have the potential to become an antiserum effective against both poisons and bacteria.

"Huh? What time is it now...?!"

The clock's hands I took out pointed to two minutes before the morning assembly time.

"Damn it!"

I quickly applied insect repellent, dashed out of the dimension home, and ran toward the carriage.

Once I get back, I must visit Mr. Dinorm and request the development of a clock with an alarm function!

Determined, I moved forward and spotted the backs of the students.

It seemed many people had already gathered. I skirted around the students and entered the group of instructors ahead.

"Hey, Ryoma. Right on time."

"Sorry, Roche-san. I got distracted by the slime."

"I see. So, what happened afterward?"

"Thanks to you, things have calmed down somehow."

"Good! That’s great to hear."

"Yes. Everyone, sorry for causing a fuss!"

Fortunately, the assembly point was close to the campsite, so I barely avoided being late. The gathered people apparently had heard about last night’s events. Since everyone was listening intently, I took the opportunity to report here.

"Well then, it’s time to start the morning assembly. Attention! ...Everyone! How do you feel after spending the night at Poison Insect Plain?"

"Itchy!"

"Couldn't sleep..."

Listening to the students’ voices, it seemed most of them had been bitten by insects.

The morning assembly mainly involved roll call and safety checks, so it didn’t take much time. At the end, I said a few words.

"Those bitten by insects probably didn’t have sufficient insect protection. Make sure to treat the bites properly, and thoroughly review the condition and usage of the tools you brought! We will camp here two more times; if nothing improves, you’ll keep suffering! As I’ve said many times, feel free to ask the instructors any questions! That’s all, dismissed!"

At the command, the students began walking toward the tents and instructors.

Hmm? Roche-san was approaching me.

"Ryoma, I have something to consult with you."

A consultation?

"Several instructors have been asked by students about fighting methods and weapons. It wasn’t planned, but the instructors were just talking about lightly demonstrating a mock battle to show and explain. If you don’t mind, would you join using your bow?"

"I don’t mind, but is it limited to the bow?"

"Not exactly limited. Everyone has their own fighting style. But since most of these instructors specialize in close combat, we'd like you to fight at a distance if possible. I heard a bit—you shot down a bird flying during the night watch?"

Someone on the watch must have told him. Indeed, to give blood to the bloody slime, I happened to see a nocturnal bird flying and shot it down.

"If you have that skill, it’d be good for the students too. Will you help?"

"Sure."

I could refuse, but here I serve as an instructor. It’s my duty to do what I can to help students learn better.

"Alright, I’ll prepare arrows with stone-proof tips for the mock battle."

"Good! I’ll call the others too and get back to you later. Well, I’m off now. Can’t keep the students waiting."

Ah,

"Beck?"

"Hey."

He usually seems always with his companions, but today he was standing alone.

Without talking to anyone, he came in front of me as Roche-san left.

Did he want something?

"...Even with care, insects get into the tents. I wanted to ask if there’s a good way to prevent that..."

Usually confident Beck was uncharacteristically hesitant today.

...Reminded me of my old subordinate, Tabuchi-kun.

"Insects getting in... Even with good measures, they often sneak in when people come and go. You should check carefully for insects sticking to clothes and shoes... Also, if you want, I can teach you a simple way to make insect repellent. Just crush a medicinal herb growing around here. If you apply it near the tent entrance, flying insects won’t come close easily."
