CHAPTER 739: A Projection?

Soon, the members of the divine race, dressed in dark magic robes, arrived at the front of their battle formation. At that moment, their formation also changed: the light cavalry split to the flanks, and the infantry moved forward to form the center, setting up a standard Yan Wing formation.

Zhao Hai silently watched as they deployed their troops, while he remained still, already prepared with the magic cube formation, waiting for them to come. It didn't matter what formation they set up; he merely wanted to see why they hadn't launched a direct attack. Perhaps they wanted to exchange a few words with him.

Zhao Hai's guess turned out to be correct. Once the divine race's formation was set, a member wearing a magic robe flew out. Zhao Hai always felt something was odd about this person, but he couldn't pinpoint what it was. He curiously scrutinized the members of the divine race.

Dressed in a snowy white magic robe, this person held a nearly transparent white magic staff, topped with a statue of a winged girl. The statue looked as holy as an angel, standing on a pure white cloud, which made the person appear even more ethereal.

Wait! A cloud? This guy is actually standing on a cloud? Zhao Hai was taken aback, and then he finally understood why he felt something was off about these people—it was because of the cloud beneath their feet.

To note, Zhao Hai and the others were not flying very high; at this altitude, clouds should not be visible. Yet this person stood on an actual cloud, which felt quite strange to Zhao Hai.

However, Zhao Hai quickly discovered that the cloud beneath the person was not just for show; it was likely a weapon.

Although Zhao Hai could create a similar effect of standing on a cloud using water magic, it would just be an intangible mist that looked like a cloud, and he wouldn't even feel grounded.

But this person's cloud was different. It was tangible, and he truly stood on it. The cloud seemed soft; when his feet pressed down, it sank slightly.

Zhao Hai's eyes narrowed involuntarily. This divine race member was not simple; even this cloud-like weapon amazed Zhao Hai, not to mention the staff in his hand.

The divine race member was also assessing Zhao Hai. With ordinary features, clad in a dark magic robe, holding a blood-red magic staff, and standing on a bone dragon, it was clear he was a dark mage.

The divine race member slightly bowed and said, “Are you Mr. Zhao Hai? I am Cloud Shadow, a celestial battle general of the divine race. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

Zhao Hai did not expect such politeness from the divine race member. He was momentarily stunned but quickly returned the gesture, “Indeed, I am Zhao Hai. It's an honor to meet General Cloud Shadow.”

Cloud Shadow smiled at Zhao Hai, looking at him more like a good friend than an enemy, as if he were an old companion.

Seeing Cloud Shadow's demeanor, Zhao Hai felt more vigilant. He knew that people like the Silverbeard Guest were not dangerous; they would display their intentions openly. But someone like Cloud Shadow was very dangerous—a typical smiling tiger who would call you brother but draw a weapon from their waist.

Zhao Hai remained silent, quietly observing Cloud Shadow. This reaction surprised Cloud Shadow; he hadn't expected Zhao Hai to have such composure, showing no signs of anger. Cloud Shadow made a mental note to classify Zhao Hai as a dangerous individual.

Knowing that neither of them could remain in a deadlock, Cloud Shadow broke the silence, “I've heard much about your esteemed name. I understand that you are the backbone of the Ark Continent. I have long admired you, and it is truly a stroke of luck for me to meet you today.”

Zhao Hai suddenly felt a bit sour. Although he enjoyed classical literature, he rarely had the chance to speak like this. Cloud Shadow’s sudden flowery language left him somewhat unaccustomed.

However, Zhao Hai quickly replied, “You flatter me, General. I am just an ordinary soldier of the Ark Continent and unworthy of such praise. But you, General, seem to have a round and full head, a square and solid foundation; your status in the divine race must not be low. It is I who feels honored to meet someone like you.”
