Chapter 636: Intense Battle
Corrosion Technique is a type of magic commonly used by dark mages. It can be incredibly powerful, but it can also seem unimpressive depending on the type of poison the dark mage wields.
The reason Corrosion Technique can have such effects is that it is a growth-type magic. Magic is generally divided into low-level, high-level, and forbidden magic, and among these, there exists growth-type magic.
Growth-type magic means that it can gradually level up over time. Just like Corrosion Technique, which is a very special form of magic. When a mage practices this magic, they must find a certain toxin and slowly refine it using their magic. The next time they use Corrosion Technique, that toxin will be infused into it.
As the mage’s level increases, they can refine stronger toxins, thus upgrading the Corrosion Technique. The more toxins refined, the greater the power of the technique.
Zhao Hai's Corrosion Technique is not simple at all; it utilizes toxins from the space around him, which are effective even against ninth-level experts. Moreover, Corrosion Technique can be classified as a type of water-elemental mutation magic. What he releases may look like a cloud of black mist, but in reality, it is a viscous black liquid, merely condensed to appear like mist.
As soon as a member of the sea dragon clan entered the black mist, he felt a tightness in his chest and dizziness. Startled, he disregarded attacking Zhao Hai, enveloping himself in a layer of blue light that formed a blue shield around him. However, to his surprise, his blue shield was shattered by the black mist almost instantaneously. The sea dragon clan member was taken aback and had no choice but to retreat from the black mist.
It should be noted that he was a ninth-level expert; his shield could normally withstand an attack from an ordinary eighth-level expert without issue. But this time, Zhao Hai's Corrosion Technique broke through the shield in one encounter, showcasing just how powerful Zhao Hai's technique was.
The sea dragon clan member retreated, but another member of the sea tribe did not pull back. Although he recognized the power of Zhao Hai's Corrosion Technique, he did not step back. Instead, his eyes sharpened with determination, and he unleashed a burst of blue light, wrapping his armor in a blue membrane, charging directly into the Corrosion Technique.
However, upon rushing through the Corrosion Technique, he found that there was no trace of Zhao Hai before him. He was momentarily stunned when suddenly a red light struck from above. He barely had time to react, crossing his arms defensively.
With a loud crack, Zhao Hai's staff shattered the scales on the sea dragon’s arm. The sea dragon member cried out in pain as he was forced back out of the range of the Corrosion Technique.
The scales on the sea dragon clan's bodies are crafted from their own scales, renowned for their hardness in the continent. Thus, it was unexpected that Zhao Hai could shatter them with a single strike.
Using their own scales for protection has its advantages, as dragon scales are sturdier than regular materials, making such armor difficult to break. However, there are downsides as well; since the scales are part of their bodies, breaking them inflicts far more pain than regular armor, which is why the sea dragon member cried out.
Just as he was pushed back, another sea dragon member charged in. As Zhao Hai's staff struck the first sea dragon's arm, the second sea dragon member appeared above him, clawing down towards Zhao Hai’s back. But Zhao Hai suddenly pivoted in mid-air and struck the second sea dragon member's claws with a punch.
The sea dragon member was filled with joy; their bodies were much sturdier than those of the human race. Even among ninth-level experts, dragons are generally more powerful, which made this apparent to the sea dragon member. To him, Zhao Hai's willingness to engage in a physical confrontation seemed suicidal.
Despite Zhao Hai exhibiting strong prowess, being both a mage and capable of engaging in close combat at a level that could rival warriors, sea dragon members still doubted that his physical strength could match theirs.
