Chapter 562: Confirmation
After a servant delivered Kaya, he stepped back. This naval battle, which occurred over a short period, wasn't very severe for the Hurricane Family's cargo ship, as the opposing side mainly used long-range weapons.
As they sat down, Chris revealed the details of their recent attack. Although the Hurricane Family has always maintained a low profile and rarely engaged in business, it does not mean they never engage at all. Their family does conduct business, though not on the grand scale like other prominent families.
To maintain their interests, a large family must possess strength. The Hurricane Family, while not fond of trading, must engage in business to ensure the normal operation of their territory. However, their family members are not particularly suited for business, so their dealings are small, primarily aimed at maintaining their territory's normal functions.
This time, Chris was returning home after finishing business in the Roson Empire. They did not go to Golden Island but rather to Chushui City, where they had conducted previous business. Although Golden Island has risen in prominence, the Hurricane Family's character prevented them from rushing to conduct business there immediately, as they remained in Chushui City.
When they returned, they were suddenly surrounded by six five-mast heavy armored warships flying pirate flags. Although they fought back, their firepower could not compare to that of the enemy. Additionally, the enemy ships were warships, far superior in capability to their cargo ship, leading to their constant assault. Had it not been for Zhao Hai's appearance, they would have eventually been overwhelmed by those six warships.
Once Chris finished speaking, Zhao Hai smiled slightly and said, “We were planning to visit the Pagoda Empire, but unexpectedly encountered such an event. Chris, don’t you find it strange? How could a pirate group afford to deploy six five-mast heavy armored ships for plundering?”
Although Chris shared a similar temperament with the members of the Hurricane Family—she would be accommodating as long as you didn’t offend her—this did not mean she was a fool. On the contrary, the members of the Hurricane Family were intelligent; they simply directed their cleverness towards studying magic and other pursuits. Clever yet lacking ambition, this was the common perception of the Hurricane Family among people on the continent.
Upon hearing Zhao Hai’s words, Chris' eyes lit up. She looked at Zhao Hai and said, “What do you mean, sir? Please speak plainly.”
Zhao Hai smiled and responded, “I suspect that they might not be pirates at all. You should know, Chris, that pirates at sea usually have backgrounds tied to various families. Given the Hurricane Family's reputation on the continent, I believe even those pirates wouldn’t dare to target a ship from the Hurricane Family, especially such a strong group. Am I right?”
Chris nodded, looking at Zhao Hai. “Indeed, you are correct. I cannot speak for others, but the Hurricane Family has friends everywhere on the continent and nearly no enemies.”
Zhao Hai smiled slightly and said, “Indeed, you are right, but you also mentioned that there are almost no enemies, not absolutely none. You won't forget that you have one major enemy, will you?”
Chris was taken aback and then looked at Zhao Hai. “Do you mean the Church of Light?”
Zhao Hai smiled slightly and said, “It’s very possible. Here’s what we should do: let’s turn the people on those ships into undead beings and ask them about it. That way, it will be clear.”
Chris was stunned and looked at Zhao Hai. “Are you saying you want to turn everyone on those ships into undead beings? Family Head Zhao Hai, isn’t that a bit too much?”
Zhao Hai smiled slightly and replied, “There’s nothing wrong with that. I’ve turned hundreds of thousands in the Aksu Empire into undead beings; do I care about these few?”
After saying that, he stood up and walked outside.
