CHAPTER 471: Singing

During this period, Zhao Hai received quite a few invitations, but the only ones specifically addressed to him were two: one from Charlie before Divine Grace Day, and another from Jason just the day before, making this the third invitation.

Zhao Hai was not surprised by the first two invitations, but this one specifically addressed to him caught him off guard.

He put down the invitation and glanced at Meg, saying, “Meg, what do you think Terry is trying to do? What does the Robert family want?”

Meg snorted and replied, “I don’t know what the Robert family wants, but I know what Terry wants. He just wants to step on you, to humiliate you, to make things difficult for both you and me. Brother Hai, you need to be careful tomorrow; otherwise, who knows what kind of tricks they’ll come up with against you?”

Zhao Hai smiled slightly and said, “Well, that’s just perfect. I was thinking of dealing with him too. What do you think? If all the Robert family’s businesses outside of Karsen City were attacked simultaneously while we were at the Robert family banquet tomorrow night, how would they react once they found out? Would they suspect me?”

When Zhao Hai said this, Meg and the others laughed. They were genuinely curious about how Terry and the others would react when they discovered their family’s businesses were in trouble.

Laura smiled and said, “Alright, I agree with Brother Hai. Let’s go ahead and teach them a lesson.”

Zhao Hai smiled lightly and said, “I really want to see how they’ll make things difficult for me. From the looks of it, they shouldn’t resort to violence. My title as an eighth-level mage isn’t just for show. If they want to play dirty, I doubt they would. Their last plan was so well thought out, yet it didn’t affect me. They probably won’t be able to do much now. Are they going to resort to literary means?”

Laura and Meg both nodded. Having grown up in noble families, they had seen many of those noble tricks, so they agreed with Zhao Hai’s reasoning.

Laura nodded and said, “If the nobles can’t play dirty or resort to violence, they generally turn to literary means. There are several forms: composing poetry on the spot, dancing, or playing musical instruments. Brother Hai, you’re not good at dancing, and I haven’t seen you play an instrument either. As for poetry? That might be a bit challenging. If they really resort to literary means, they might hit your weak point.”

Laura didn’t ignore Zhao Hai’s shortcomings for the sake of his pride. In her view, no one is perfect. Zhao Hai couldn’t write romantic poetry, dance, or play instruments—things that nobles used to display their status—but these did not overshadow Zhao Hai’s strengths. For a family like the budah family, which had been driven to desperation, they needed a family head who was both low-key and decisive, and Zhao Hai fit that description.

Zhao Hai smiled slightly and said, “Yes, that would really hit my weak point. But it’s fine; I can sing, and I sing pretty well. How about it? Is singing acceptable?”

When Zhao Hai said this, Laura and Meg’s eyes lit up. They exchanged glances, and then Meg said, “Brother Hai, you really can sing? Then sing a song for us to hear!”

Zhao Hai forced a smile; he knew that once he mentioned he could sing, this would be the outcome. However, he wasn’t lying. While he couldn’t play instruments, he was indeed good at singing because back on Earth, he had only three hobbies: singing, drinking, and reading.

Zhao Hai generally liked popular songs, although he enjoyed classic hits as well. He didn’t like to drink too much; usually, he would have a couple of drinks alone or go out for a small gathering with friends. As for reading, that was his greatest passion.

To be honest, Zhao Hai could sing well; otherwise, he wouldn't have claimed he could. However, since coming to the Ark Continent, he hadn’t had the mood to sing because he had too many matters to handle.
