Chapter 455: Killing Intent

The next morning, Zhao Hai and his companions boarded a carriage and entered Karsen City, heading straight for the East Market. The East Market is the largest market in Karsen City, serving as a wholesale market for daily necessities. It offers both wholesale and retail options, and compared to other places, the prices here are much cheaper, making it very popular among the common people in Karsen City.

When Zhao Hai's carriage arrived at the East Market, they were unable to drive in. Zhao Hai glanced at the crowd and couldn't help but shake his head; it suddenly reminded him of the times he attended temple fairs on Earth. The number of people at the East Market was quite similar to those occasions.

Zhao Hai turned to his companions and said, “Well, we should get out and walk in. The carriage definitely can’t get through. Wan Ying, you stay here and watch the carriage.”

Xu Wanying acknowledged, and Zhao Hai and the others got down from the carriage and slowly made their way into the market. However, the people in the market were all watching them with great curiosity.

Zhao Hai looked around and indeed noticed something odd; there were quite a few pedestrians in the street, but there were no nobles dressed in fine clothing. Most were common folks, and there weren’t even any servants in sight.

Zhao Hai turned to Meigen and said, “Meigen, why can’t we see any nobles here? Look at the way those people are staring at us.”

Meigen laughed and replied, “Brother Hai, you really don’t know? Nobles on this continent never come out to shop for themselves. They have dedicated delivery people. If they want something, they just tell them directly and don’t need to come out to buy it.”

Zhao Hai nodded and decided not to dwell on it, continuing into the East Market. It was winter, and although the Lorin Empire was much warmer than the grasslands, the seasons were still distinct. The winter here was very dry, and many shops had piles of goods outside waiting to be sold. The shops were bustling with customers, creating a lively atmosphere.

As they walked, Zhao Hai and his companions didn’t push through the crowd but instead strolled while looking around. Mudu and Shun Yi were close by, and as soon as the common people saw them, they quickly stepped aside, not daring to linger in their path.

Suddenly, Zhao Hai's attention was drawn to a particular shop. The shops in the East Market were all quite beautiful, with uniform two-story buildings, but the shop he was looking at was a bit different. It had three floors and stood alone, not attached to any other buildings, and there weren’t many people coming in and out of it.

Seeing this, Zhao Hai curiously asked Meigen, “Meigen, whose shop is that? Why isn’t there anyone?”

Meigen glanced at the shop and smiled, “That’s the shop of Grandpa Robert. They have the largest wholesale shop for daily necessities in the Roson Empire. They don’t cater to retail, and everyone knows that, so even the common folks rarely go there.”

Zhao Hai nodded and said, “Then let’s go check it out. I’m quite curious about what they have in there.”

Meigen smiled, “I actually wanted to go to his shop too. Their products are definitely the most comprehensive in the Roson Empire.” As they spoke, they entered the shop.

Upon arriving at the door, a shop assistant quickly approached and bowed, saying, “Sir, Miss, please come in.” The assistant had noticed that Meigen and the others were dressed like young ladies, clearly not yet married, so he referred to them as Miss.

Zhao Hai nodded and entered the shop. As soon as he stepped inside, his eyes lit up. The layout of the shop was very similar to a supermarket he had visited before; however, the shelves were small, and each item was displayed as a sample. There was only one sample of each product on the shelf, with labels underneath. Zhao Hai noticed that indeed, the prices here were cheaper than those he had encountered before.
