CHAPTER 31: Millstone, Stone Grinder
Thinking of this, Zhao Hai quickly flashed into the space. He really didn't like others watching him while he was in the space, but to reassure Merlin and the others, he had to bring them into the space to take a look; after all, the budah family still relied on them.
This time, Zhao Hai let Merlin and Meg know about the situation in the space to bolster their confidence. The crises in the Black Earth Wilderness were coming one after another, and if Merlin and the others lost their confidence, everything would be over.
Once inside the space, Zhao Hai immediately bought radishes. This time, he purchased radishes for three seasons, totaling fifteen hundred gold coins. Adding to the fifty gold coins he already had, he now had a total of fifteen hundred fifty gold coins. If he used this money to plant radishes, it would be enough to plant radishes for ten seasons.
Zhao Hai also wanted to save some radishes for seeds, but radishes were not like corn. When they matured, they were mainly consumed for their roots. He wasn't sure if the space would allow them to save seeds. Additionally, even if radishes were saved for seeds, the quantity was very low, far less productive than corn, which is why Zhao Hai didn't save radishes for seeds.
Selling the radishes would still earn him a considerable amount of money. If he sold them outside, he would earn even more. He just needed to wait for Galen to return so they could sell the radishes. By then, he could buy some books about plants on the continent, allowing him to decide what to plant. Right now, his understanding of the plants on the continent was too limited, and he couldn't develop as he wished.
Zhao Hai had no choice; he had bought the radishes, and tomorrow he could still harvest another season's radishes. He told Galen that he only had eighty thousand jin of radishes, which was temporarily enough for one season.
However, even though he had fifteen hundred gold coins in hand, it wasn't enough. The radishes could be harvested three times a day, meaning his gold coins would only last for three days. After three days, he would need to sell radishes again.
Zhao Hai felt helpless. His level was too low, and even if he wanted to buy some higher-grade seeds, he couldn't. So, he could only wait. At this speed, he didn't know when he would be able to upgrade the space.
After exiting the space, Zhao Hai lay on the bed and quickly fell asleep. He realized that he seemed to be able to sleep exceptionally well now; he had already slept in the afternoon, yet he could still sleep at night. It was truly incredible.
Early the next day, Zhao Hai was awakened by the sound of radishes maturing in the space. Upon entering the space, he found that not only the radishes but also the corn was nearing maturity.
Zhao Hai quickly harvested the radishes, bought a bag of radish seeds, and planted them. He checked the corn, which was just minutes away from maturing. Zhao Hai didn't want to go out; instead, he washed his face with water from the space and rinsed his mouth, waiting in the space.
Looking at the corn, Zhao Hai couldn't help but feel hungry. He used to live in the north, where corn was no longer considered a staple food. However, having it occasionally was quite good. Back then, the corn was high-yield, not like the sticky corn of the past. Plus, most of it was grown with chemical fertilizers, which didn't taste as good as those grown with farmyard manure, so he only occasionally ate it.
However, when he visited his relatives in the countryside, he once had something delicious—corn cakes made on a large iron pan. They were so tasty! Those corn cakes were completely different from the ones sold in the city. Although the cornmeal was coarsely ground, the cakes were very fragrant. The bottom of the pan was simmered with vegetables, and the lower half of the corn cakes soaked up the vegetable broth, creating a crispy crust. Taking a bite not only brought the aroma of cornmeal but also the delightful burnt flavor from the crust, making the broth-soaked parts even more delicious.
