Chapter 287: Poison!
The sky gradually darkened. Due to the preparation of winter pastures, the meal times at the camp were later than before. It was almost dark when the camp finally saw smoke rising from cooking fires.
Zhao Hai looked at the orcs outside, who had already started cooking, and couldn't help but smile slightly as he said, "Let's get started too." Laura nodded, and they began preparing dinner in the camp just like before, without any signs of change.
However, Zhao Hai did not join them outside. Instead, he used the monitor in the space to observe the bullfighting tribe cavalry watching over the Herculean Bull Tribe's pasture. Those cavalry were also cooking, and it looked like they were preparing a decent meal, with lamb boiling in pots, and many had taken out bags for storing their milk wine.
Seeing this, Zhao Hai smiled slightly. It was the perfect opportunity for him to poison them. Initially, Zhao Hai planned to let the flying eagle drop poison from the sky, but later realized that this was unrealistic. A flying eagle wasn’t an aircraft; just like an aircraft dropping bombs couldn't guarantee a hit, expecting the flying eagle to poison in that manner was impractical.
With no option to use the flying eagle for poison, Zhao Hai thought of another powerful weapon in the space—the soul-eating blood mosquito.
Since the soul-eating blood mosquito had entered the space, Zhao Hai had never used them. This time presented an opportunity, but instead of letting them bite people, he intended to use them to deliver poison.
These soul-eating blood mosquitoes were quite large. A couple could sneak into the bullfighting tribe's camp, but if too many went, they would surely be discovered. Therefore, Zhao Hai only sent five mosquitoes to the first camp.
These soul-eating blood mosquitoes had been modified in the space, so they were not afraid of the insecticide poison. Zhao Hai made each of them gulp down a belly full of poison before sending them into the bullfighting tribe's camp to spit the poison into the large pot of meat they were cooking.
Zhao Hai only learned about their ability to spit out the liquid they had ingested after asking Zhao Wen. He truly had not expected that these mosquitoes could expel the liquid they had sucked in; it was indeed formidable.
Originally, Zhao Hai wanted these mosquitoes to fly directly into the pot for a suicide attack, but now it seemed unnecessary; this method was better.
Zhao Hai only poisoned the bullfighting tribe's camp watching over the Herculean Bull Tribe's pasture and did not poison the camp within the Herculean Bull Tribe's pasture itself. He feared that would harm the Second and Third Princesses, which would leave him in a difficult position to explain to Wells.
The poison would be ready shortly, while Laura and the others were outside cooking. They had prepared some good food—lamb. In the grassland, people did not eat lamb every day. For ordinary orcs on the grassland, mountain goats were their most important asset; how could they bear to eat lamb?
The pastoralists of the grassland primarily consumed bamboo rice, only eating lamb during special occasions. Laura and the others understood this, so their usual diet consisted mainly of bamboo rice and flatbreads, and they wouldn’t typically eat lamb.
However, today was a special day, so Laura and the others prepared lamb, setting up a large pot just outside the camp to boil the meat. The few of them were laughing and joking as they cooked.
Among the three of them, Meg was the best at cooking. She often helped Merlin prepare meals, so her culinary skills were quite good. Laura and Ni'er, on the other hand, did not know how to cook; Laura truly was a young lady who wouldn’t know her way around the kitchen, and Ni'er, who always followed Laura, of course, didn’t know either.
Despite that, the two of them were not idle; they stayed by Meg’s side, laughing and helping in their own clumsy way, causing Meg to be flustered and teasingly complain.
