Chapter 274: National Policy
Schools are not only present in the human race but also in the orc tribe. However, only some of the larger warrior clans have schools. The most famous one is located in Beast God City, known for its long history of training powerful orc warriors. Yet, that school only accepts high-ranking warrior clans, along with some prophets, shamans, and shamanic healers. Ordinary orcs cannot attend school.
Due to this reason, schools hold a high status in the hearts of orcs. Nevertheless, as Ares and Alea have aged and experienced more, they have heard from others that the main purpose of the schools run by large warrior clans is to gather and manage their children for training. So when they heard Laura's words, they felt as if Laura was about to build a school.
Both of them looked excitedly at Zhao Hai. Zhao Hai glanced at Galen and the others and said, "In the future, our population will continue to grow, and so will the number of children. Therefore, establishing a school is inevitable. I believe we should take advantage of the current situation while there are not many of us and set up the school now to accumulate some experience. Later, when we have more people, we won't be flustered because of this prior experience."
Galen nodded and said, "What the young master said makes sense. We should set up the school right away, especially since there are still plenty of empty rooms in the castle."
Kun Zheng also nodded in agreement, "I think we should set up a magic and martial arts school. For children under four, they should be raised by their parents. After four, they can be sent to a unified kindergarten with specialized personnel taking care of them. They would be sent to kindergarten every morning and picked up in the evening, having lunch there, where they can receive some basic education, learning simple characters and some basic arithmetic."
"When they reach seven, they can start formal classes, which will be divided into three subjects: literature, mathematics, and martial arts. All three subjects will be taught simultaneously. For example, one hour of literature, one hour of mathematics, and one hour of martial arts. Just like in kindergarten, they would be sent to school in the morning and picked up in the evening, with lunch provided at school."
"By the age of twelve, they would begin to specialize. For those with talent in martial arts, their main focus would be on martial arts and literature. For those with talent as mages, their primary focus would be on magic and literature. If they show no talent for either, they can concentrate solely on literature or mathematics. We can also invite some craftsmen to the school to teach children some technical skills. This way, even if they do not excel in literature or mathematics, they will at least have a skill for self-defense. At the very least, they will learn to read and do simple arithmetic, which is beneficial for them. What does everyone think?"
Galen and the others had not expected Zhao Hai to have everything planned out so meticulously. Upon hearing Zhao Hai's proposal, they realized it wasn't a hasty decision. The plan was detailed, arguably more so than the magic and martial arts academies on the continent, and it started from the age of four. Typically, such academies began at ages six or seven, focusing only on simple training and character recognition without teaching much else. Little did they know, Zhao Hai had simply adapted the schooling system from Earth to the Ark Continent.
However, they had to admit that Zhao Hai's school would be far superior to the current ones on the continent. If it were successfully established, it would certainly be a unique institution, paving the way in history.
Due to the martial culture on the continent, magic and martial arts schools primarily focused on teaching martial skills and magic. Yet, Zhao Hai's proposed school was different. Its primary focus was on literature and mathematics, emphasizing education in these subjects from start to finish, which was something Galen and the others had never heard before.
