CHAPTER 249: Mutation

By noon, Zhao Hai finally understood why Wells seemed so unhurried in the morning. They hadn’t stopped at all during the midday, merely sitting on the backs of the bulls, eating some jerky and sipping a bit of water, while continuously on the move.

Of course, the jerky they had wasn’t the same as battle rations; this type of jerky was common food for orcs. Especially during travel or herding, they would prepare some and keep it in their pockets for easy access.

This jerky retained some moisture and couldn’t be stored for long. It was easy to make, and most orcs could prepare it. It served as a staple food for the orc tribe.

Seeing this situation, Zhao Hai naturally couldn’t stop. To be honest, if it came to sprinting speed, the earthwalker bull couldn’t match the Wind Chaser Horse. However, when it came to endurance, the Wind Chaser Horse fell far behind. Zhao Hai and the others were barely able to keep up with Wells. If they stopped to eat now, it would definitely affect their travel speed.

However, this didn’t pose much of a challenge for Zhao Hai. He found an opportunity to enter the space, where Merlin helped them prepare a meal. Then he brought it back to the cart and shared a simple meal with Laura and the others.

Laura’s cart was quite spacious, so it was no problem for Zhao Hai and the others to eat inside. By evening, they began to set up camp. At that moment, Zhao Hai couldn’t help but admire the orcs’ skill in building camps. In just a short time, they had set up the camp, taking just over an hour. Such speed was truly astonishing.

Fortunately, Zhao Hai and the others didn’t need to prepare much; setting up a tent was all that was required, and this tent was merely for temporary use.

That evening, Zhao Hai dined with Wells. They had roast meat for dinner, and Wells was quite generous in this regard. This was a key difference between large tribes and small tribes. For the people of small tribes, every sheep was considered their asset, and it would be a waste to eat it like this. However, for Wells, these mountain goats were merely food.

After dinner, Zhao Hai didn’t engage in idle chatter with Wells. He felt that he and Wells were not in the same league; Wells was smart and ambitious, while Zhao Hai was simply an ordinary person striving hard to live a better life.

Zhao Hai initially thought they would travel smoothly to Beast God City, open a shop there, and gradually develop. Everything seemed so simple.

But he forgot a saying: plans always change faster than expected. Just on the third day of traveling with Wells, unexpected changes occurred.

On this day, they continued their journey as usual. The Orc Prairie was vast, and even if they wanted to encounter a small tribe within a few days, it wasn’t an easy task. During these days, Zhao Hai still sent the Blood Eagle into the sky for reconnaissance, although the range had greatly decreased.

At noon on the third day, they were still traveling as usual and didn’t rest. To ensure he could keep pace with Wells, Zhao Hai had transformed the Wind Chaser Horse he used to pull the cart into an undead being the first night he returned to the space. With these tireless undead beings pulling the cart, they could easily keep up with Wells.

Just after finishing their meal, while sitting in Laura’s cart sipping Kaya, Zhao Hai had to admit that the design of Laura’s cart was truly user-friendly. If space allowed, Zhao Hai and the others could even sleep inside the cart.

At that moment, the cry of an eagle in the sky caught Zhao Hai’s attention. He looked up to see a Blood Eagle circling in the air. Upon closer inspection, his expression changed.

Laura and the others didn’t pay much attention to it, as the Blood Eagle had returned several times in recent days to report back, likely having spotted magical beasts or small tribes nearby. Wells probably deemed food supplies too important to waste time visiting those small tribes, so they kept moving forward. While Zhao Hai felt a bit disappointed, he still traveled with Wells in order to reach Beast God City sooner.
