Chapter 230: Entering the Prairie
This might be the last public chapter. It should be available in the afternoon, and I hope everyone can continue to support Ming Ming.
Early the next morning, Zhao Hai followed the plan they agreed upon yesterday and released two Blood Eagles. He gave the Evil Spirit Staff to the Blood Eagles, allowing them to fly directly towards the Iron Wall Fortress.
The Iron Wall Fortress is very far from the Black Earth Wilderness. If they traveled by carriage, it would take about half a month. If they rode horses, it would still take around ten days, of course, at a normal pace, not rushing.
The Iron Wall Fortress is the first line of defense for the Versailles Principality against the Orc Prairie, and it is also the most solid line of defense. The Versailles Principality has a permanent garrison of twenty thousand elite Charging Bull Guards stationed there. Even if the Orcs sent a hundred thousand soldiers and they weren't elite troops, these twenty thousand Charging Bull Guards could hold them off for a few days.
Most importantly, at the Iron Wall Fortress, the Versailles Family has left behind a team of mages. This team cannot really be called a legion, as it only consists of fifty mages, all at levels four to six, along with around two hundred level one to three mages. On the continent, there are many level one to three mages, but they usually struggle to make a living in various mercenary groups, so they really appreciate the opportunity to defend the Iron Wall Fortress, where the treatment is quite good and it remains safe as long as there's no fighting.
Although this mage force is not large and their levels are not very high, when war breaks out, they can exert considerable power. Ordinary soldiers are not usually that strong, while mages can use a range of area attack spells, which are tremendously useful in battle.
To put it simply, an ordinary soldier is like a fighter with a single-shot rifle; his attacks come one by one, like a single-shot weapon. A mage, on the other hand, is akin to a machine gun, capable of continuous fire and causing widespread destruction—that's the difference.
The Iron Wall Fortress got its name because the Charging Bull Guards of the Versailles Principality once achieved a brilliant victory there. They held off an attack from five hundred thousand Orc troops for half a month with just fifty thousand men. By the time reinforcements from the Aksu Empire finally arrived, fewer than five thousand Charging Bull Guards remained, and the entire Iron Wall Fortress had been stained with blood.
After this battle, the Charging Bull Guards became famous overnight, and through this battle, the Versailles Family obtained the title of Grand Duke, establishing the current Versailles Principality.
It can be said that the Iron Wall Fortress is well-known not just among the human race, but also among the orc tribe. Many invasion plans from the orc tribe have been thwarted at the Iron Wall Fortress.
Zhao Hai and the others were sitting in the living room, looking at the scenery on the screen. To be honest, Zhao Hai doesn't know much about the Versailles Principality. Since he arrived, he has only learned about the situation from Black Mountain Pass to Casa City, and he knows nothing about the other cities.
Now, he could take the opportunity to have a look; even if it was just a cursory glance, it was better than nothing.
As twilight approached, the Blood Eagles had already flown out of the Versailles Principality's territory and officially entered the Orc Prairie, which is still several hundred miles from the Iron Wall Fortress. However, they had yet to see any orc tribes. This was not surprising, as orc tribes wouldn’t settle too close to the Iron Wall Fortress; otherwise, the garrison there would come out and eliminate them, fearing they were there to scout military information.
The orc tribe can accept this situation, just as the human race cannot indiscriminately send too many armed personnel into the Orc Prairie.
