Chapter 217: Poison
For a whole ten days, the people of Casa City noticed that countless carts filled with various supplies were continuously transported into Xin Manor. The entire Xin Manor resembled a giant beast that could never be satiated, constantly devouring those supplies without any sign of them exiting.
Although the people of Casa City found it strange, they didn’t say much. Moreover, the items selected by Laura were quite suitable; aside from what was already in Xin Manor, the rest were things commonly used on the Orc Prairie.
It must be noted that items suitable for Casa City were not necessarily suitable for the inhabitants of the Orc Prairie. The needs of the Orc Prairie were different from those of the commoners in Casa City.
Because of this, their actions did not cause any fluctuations in the daily necessities market of the Versailles Principality. The major trading firms were also quite willing to sell these items to Laura.
The major firms' dealings were not necessarily clean; they often engaged in smuggling while doing business with orcs. So, upon seeing the items Laura was purchasing, they understood her intentions and didn’t stop her. After all, selling the goods to Laura meant they would earn a little less but could make quick cash, and these items could be swiftly transported from the rear. There was nothing unusual about it.
On the tenth night after Zhao Hai arrived in Casa City, Zhao Hai, Laura, Kun Zheng, Galen, and the others gathered again in Laura's study.
Laura held a report in her hand and said to everyone, “We just received news from the Versailles Principality. Today, several groups of mercenaries suddenly entered the Principality and are moving towards Casa City. The situation is unclear.”
Kun Zheng snorted coldly and said, “What’s so unclear? They must be coming for us. They definitely know that Zhao Hai is in Casa City. This time, they want to take us all out in one go.”
Galen nodded and said, “I think so too. Hmph, let them come! We’ll deal with them quickly, then retreat. I’m curious to see what they can do to us.”
Laura turned to Zhao Hai and said, “Brother Hai, shouldn’t we take care of Oroja and the others? Why haven’t you dealt with them these days?”
Zhao Hai nodded and said, “It’s time to deal with them. They know too much now. We can’t let it go. I didn’t want to kill these people who had no ability to fight back, but now I have no choice.”
Hearing this, Laura and the others understood that Zhao Hai was looking for an excuse, a reason to kill Oroja and his group.
This behavior might seem ridiculous, as if he were covering his ears while stealing a bell, but in a certain sense, it had its merits. At the very least, it could make Zhao Hai feel a bit better about it.
After dinner that night, Oroja and his group returned to their rooms. All of their weapons had been taken away, and through days of observation, Oroja realized that Laura had already made up her mind to kill them.
However, Oroja found himself helpless. They were weaponless, surrounded tightly by undead beings, and no one could escape.
All they could do now was stay quietly in their rooms. If Laura truly wanted to kill them, they would have to fight fiercely.
Tragically, Oroja felt an unprecedented sorrow. He thought back to how proud he had once been. In the entire Aksu Empire, wherever he went, as long as he revealed his identity as a steward under Carlo, no one dared to look down on him. But now, he had fallen to this state, waiting for death, like a Blue-eyed Rabbit being led to the slaughterhouse, simply waiting for someone to deliver the final blow. This feeling was truly unbearable.
He had thought about resisting, but it was futile. No matter how much noise they made, the undead beings would not bother them. But the moment they got close to the undead, those beings would instantly attack, not to kill them but to break their legs and then throw them into the courtyard. It was that simple.
If it were humans, Oroja could try to reach out to them and offer them benefits in exchange for his life. Unfortunately, they were not facing humans, but undead beings—creatures that wouldn’t waste words on him and couldn’t be bribed. No matter how clever Oroja was, he couldn’t execute any of his plans.
