Chapter 160: Good to Bear Children
This was the first time Zhao Hai spoke to Meg in such a teasing tone, which caught Meg and the others off guard. Then, Meg's face turned red, and she playfully scolded, "Young master, you are teasing me."
Zhao Hai chuckled lightly, feeling relieved internally. Although Zhao Hai was a homebody who had never been in a relationship, he was not foolish. He noticed that Meg seemed to have a little fondness for him, and after such a long period of interaction, he also developed a good impression of her. The reason he said this was to gauge Meg's reaction; if she wasn't angry, it meant she indeed had feelings for him and he wasn't mistaken.
This was also the first time the others heard Zhao Hai speak to Meg like this. They exchanged puzzled glances but said nothing.
Meg's face was flushed, but she was secretly delighted. Her heart had long been tied to Zhao Hai. However, Zhao Hai had always been indifferent, so she didn't dare reveal her feelings and could only care for him in silence.
Though Zhao Hai's words today seemed harmless, they brought great joy to Meg, as it could be seen as a compliment. Receiving praise from the person she liked, even in a joking manner, made her heart race.
Zhao Hai was careful not to tease Meg too much; he knew she was shy. If he continued, he might end up making her run away in embarrassment. He also didn't want to turn into a smooth talker; that wasn't his personality.
After chatting with the three for a while, Zhao Hai felt it was about time to leave. He brought Meg out of the space. Laura had seen Meg before, and if she suddenly didn't see her today, it might raise suspicion. So, Zhao Hai took Meg out, while the others stayed in the space to take care of the slaves. After Meg finished cooking, she even delivered a portion to them.
When Laura and Ni'er arrived at the dining room, Zhao Hai and the others were already seated, waiting for them. Laura apologetically said to Zhao Hai, "I apologize for keeping you waiting, sir. I was a bit tired from the ride and dozed off without realizing it."
Zhao Hai smiled slightly and replied, "It's alright, I just arrived as well. Miss Laura, please take a seat. Here, it's like being at home, so don't be polite." Laura nodded and sat down.
At that moment, Merlin and Meg brought in the prepared dishes. Galen had already sat next to Zhao Hai. Today's meal was mainly bread, with plenty of dishes, most of which Laura had eaten before.
Laura enjoyed the meal very much; these dishes could only be enjoyed here with Zhao Hai. Usually, she couldn't eat them at home, not just because of the lack of ingredients but also because she didn't know how to cook them.
Laura wasn't sure if it was her illusion, but she felt that Zhao Hai's maid looked at her with a hint of hostility, while Zhao Hai's cook eyed her with an indescribable feeling, making her uncomfortable all over.
Due to this feeling, Laura finished her meal and decided to take her leave. She couldn't understand why the people around Zhao Hai were acting this way; what was going on?
Furrowing her brows, she sat in the carriage, deep in thought. Ni'er looked at Laura and chuckled, "Miss, didn't you notice? That maid of the sir seems very hostile towards you."
Laura was taken aback and turned to Ni'er, saying, "You noticed it too? I thought it was just my imagination. Did I offend that maid in some way? Or did I do something that displeased the sir?"
Ni'er giggled and replied, "Miss, you really are naive. It's not that you did something wrong; didn't you see the way that maid looked at the sir? The affection was obvious even to me. She clearly considers you a rival, and the cook has been sizing you up, even glancing at your backside from time to time. I've heard people say that a big backside is good for bearing children. Hehe, perhaps that cook is checking if you're suitable for childbirth."
Laura was stunned, then playfully scolded, "You naughty girl, always talking nonsense. Are you in love? It seems I need to find someone to marry you off soon."
