Chapter 151: Invoking the Divine Guardian

Lan Ji was taken aback. As the assistant to the grand elder, she was naturally well aware of the family matters and understood the situation with the budah family. She did not expect the budah family to suddenly come to withdraw from the engagement at this time.

Lan Ji also knew the significance of this matter, so she did not say anything further to Stern, only nodding and saying, "Alright, I will report to the grand elder right away." After saying that, she turned and pushed open the door opposite the sofa and walked in.

After a while, Lan Ji came out and smiled at Stern, saying, "Elder Stern, the grand elder requests you to come in." Stern stood up, adjusted his clothes, thanked Lan Ji, and then pushed the door open to enter the room.

This room was very luxurious, with two bronze incense burners emitting calming incense, thick carpets on the floor, and a huge map hanging on one wall. Beneath the map was a red incense wood table, on which lay a thick stack of documents.

An elderly man was seated behind the table. He appeared to be over seventy years old, with neatly combed hair and a rosy complexion. He was currently holding a brush, writing something on a document. This elder was none other than Caesar Versailles, the grand elder of the Versailles family.

Stern dared not interrupt and quietly approached the left side of the table, standing still in silence.

After a long while, Caesar put down the brush and looked up at Stern, saying, "Stern, sit down. I heard that the budah family came to withdraw from the engagement?"

Stern bowed and replied, "Elder Stern pays his respects to the grand elder. Yes, Galen just came by and said they wish to withdraw from the engagement."

Caesar nodded and asked, "What do you think of this matter?"

Stern replied, "The death warriors we sent to the Black Earth Wilderness have already been killed by Galen. With Galen and Merlin's abilities, they can easily hide with Adam in the mountains when the beast tide comes, potentially escaping that calamity. However, I fear that the slaves and supplies they bought have likely dwindled as well. Galen came on foot, without riding a horse or using a carriage, and he stayed in an ordinary inn, suggesting that he does not have much money at hand. This time, Merlin did not appear, which I suspect is because he is staying in the Black Earth Wilderness to protect Zhao Hai. Galen must have realized this too. If they did not withdraw from the engagement, we might not have been so polite. Therefore, in my opinion, we should take this opportunity to cancel the engagement."

Leaning back in his chair, Caesar closed his eyes, quietly listening to Stern. After Stern finished speaking, he looked uneasily at Caesar, unsure of his thoughts.

Stern was very clear about the grand elder's temperament—greedy, lustful, vain, insidious, and ruthless. All these words could easily describe him, indicating what kind of person he was.

Yet this individual had ruled the Versailles family for over fifty years, with his influence spread throughout every corner of the family. It was precisely because of him that the originally powerless council of elders had now sidelined the family head. In front of such a person, Stern did not dare to overstep even slightly.

After a long moment, Caesar calmly asked, "What is Galen's attitude?"

Stern replied honestly, "His attitude is very aggressive, filled with ridicule. It doesn't seem like he came to withdraw from the engagement, but more like to demonstrate."

Caesar nodded, saying, "Engagements can be withdrawn, but we must teach him a lesson to let him know that our Versailles family is not someone he can kill at will. Anyone who kills someone from our family will pay a price."

Listening to Caesar's words, Stern said solemnly, "Yes, however, grand elder, I’ve noticed that Galen's strength seems to have increased; he has likely reached the peak of the eighth level. It may not be so easy to deal with him."

Upon hearing this, Caesar's eyes widened, glinting with cold light as he said, "Really? Galen has truly reached the peak of the eighth level?"
