A certain time, a place not here.
There was a traveler walking across many countries.
One day, at the entrance of a town he arrived at, there was a red and tattered cat.
The traveler asked the cat,
"Hey, cat. What is your name?"
The tattered Red Cat answered,
"Annoying traveler, do I have a name? I’m just tattered."
This time, the tattered Red Cat asked the traveler,
"More importantly, why do you ask me for my name? Don’t you want to know why I’m tattered?"
The traveler replied,
"I don’t need to ask to know. It’s because you’re red, right? You were bullied by other cats. I know everything."
The tattered Red Cat questioned the all-knowing traveler,
"Why am I garbage, yet have ears, a tail, and walk around meowing?"
"Because you’re not garbage, you’re a cat," the traveler answered.
The cat asked,
"If I’m a cat, not garbage, why am I tattered?"
The traveler answered,
"Because that’s just what you are."
"Why am I that way?"
"Simply because you are. Just like I am a traveler."
The traveler began to sing.
"I am a traveler, because I am a person traveling.
You are the tattered Red Cat, because you are a tattered red cat."
"Don’t mock me!"
The cat got angry and scratched the traveler vigorously.
The traveler cried out in pain and ran away.
"Why are you angry? Angry, scratchy cat. Don’t you hate being garbage?"
When asked that, the tattered Red Cat could not answer.
"Then travel with me. If a cat rolls around like garbage, it becomes garbage. If garbage meows, it becomes a cat. And if you set out on a journey with me, from today on, you’ll be a traveling cat!"
The traveler and the Tattered Red Cat decided to travel the world on foot.
They walked through a country where wheat stretched endlessly.
The tattered cat got completely covered in wheat, becoming a wheat cat.
"Now, where should we go next?"
By the roadside in the wheat field, there stood a scarecrow.
The traveler spoke to the scarecrow,
"Hey, Scarecrow, where will I be tomorrow?"
"More importantly, traveler, answer my question."
The scarecrow asked the traveler,
"Why can’t I move from here?"
"Because you’re a scarecrow. Scarecrows don’t move."
"Scarecrows don’t move, huh?"
The scarecrow groaned, "Ummm..."
"Do you hate not being able to move? Then go on a journey."
The traveler said,
"If you stand still in a field, you become a scarecrow. If you go on a journey, you’re a traveler!"
The scarecrow thought deeply and then said,
"No, if I move, the farmer will be troubled. I’ll stay here as a scarecrow."
Passing through the wheat field country, the traveler and the Tattered Red Cat came to the Land of Rocky Mountains.
Beyond the spiky rocks, they heard a peeping cry. There was a crybaby demon.
"Hey, Crybaby Demon, where will I be tomorrow?"
"More importantly, answer my question."
The demon said through tears,
"Why am I a crybaby? Although I’m a demon, why am I so weak?"
The traveler answered,
"Stop crying. If the crybaby demon stops crying, you become just a demon."
"But everyone hits me."
"If you hit back the hitters, you become the hitter demon. If the hitter demon cries, he becomes the crybaby demon. Choose which you want to be."
The crybaby demon pondered for a long time until his tears dried.
Eventually, the normal demon said,
"I don’t want to be the hitter demon. But I’m tired of being the crybaby demon. I’ll decide not to cry."
The crybaby demon stopped crying.
After crossing the Land of Rocky Mountains, there was a very tall mountain.
The mountain was so high the travelers couldn’t proceed.
"Hey little bird, please tell me. How can we get over there tomorrow?"
The little bird answered,
"At the foot of the mountain lives a rainbow-colored bird. If you talk to it on a day when a rainbow appears, it will tell you how to cross the mountain."
The traveler and the Tattered Red Cat waited through much rain and sunshine.
Finally, on the day a rainbow appeared, they asked the rainbow-colored bird.
The rainbow-colored bird told them,
"There is a door that only opens while the rainbow is up. Look, there!"
And indeed, there was a rainbow-colored door.
