Ascendance of a Bookworm

Chapter 590: Measuring and Impatience 📏

Published: September 6, 2025

For now, I contacted Ordnance saying, "A new fact has come to light, so please allow me some time to talk," and returned to the castle. Foster Father agreed to make time for me tomorrow after dinner. Today, he was busy revising the defense plans, and Grandfather suddenly rushed out halfway through, so there was no time to meet.

...Even though it's urgent!

Usually, considering that appointments take about three days to schedule, being told "tomorrow after dinner" is quite fast. However, when wanting to discuss confidential matters that can't be revealed at Ordnance like now, even waiting until the next day feels like a long time.

"Lady Rosemine returned earlier than expected, so we are very happy. Tomorrow, we have time to discuss the outfit orders with Lady Rosemine," said Otilier and Liselotte as they presented wooden tags. Although it was decided I would move to the capital by the end of spring, due to my rapid growth, all the outfits prepared had to be remade. Unless we mobilize all the dedicated seamstresses involved, we can't prepare the spring and summer clothes, and starting from taking time to consult on designs with them would not be in time. They seemed to want to decide the general concept of the outfits to order.

"It's not just the outfits, Lady Rosemine. Shoes, socks, underwear — everything is insufficient. We must hear your preferences beforehand and decide on designs to some extent; otherwise, it can't be finished in a single day."

Grethia and Berthilde were also summoned, and Clarissa and Leonore were mobilized for discussions about the clothes. Because my facial features and aura had changed, the cute outfits ordered before no longer suited me, and the design had to be completely altered.

"Time-wise, it would be difficult to re-dye the fabric. Should we use fabrics other than those from Renaissance?"

"No, let's use as much fabric dyed by Renaissance as possible. We can't treat myself as exclusive if none of her fabrics are used in the outfits, right? I don't want her to feel awkward when she accompanies me, so let's carefully consider the designs."

Since I started growing, the types of flowers and the atmosphere used in the fabrics my mother dyes have become a bit more mature. It shouldn't be that they are completely unusable.

"How about using Brynhildr's outfit as a base? After all, it skillfully incorporates my trends. It's faster than thinking from scratch," I said, pinching the skirt of the outfit I was wearing. Although the fabrics must be carefully chosen due to differences in hair and skin color, I thought the designs could be similar.

"Since we are at it, let's add something new. It wouldn't be good for Lady Rosemine to simply reuse her close attendants' outfits," they said. Since trends flow from above, rather than reusing Brynhildr’s, at least adding something would be better. I pondered with a "Hmm..." But when I tried to think about the outfits, what came to mind were the temple and Georgine.

I understood that outfit preparations were pressing, but thinking, "Even while we're doing this, Georgine might be right there," made it feel like a frivolous thing to be doing. I swallowed the inexplicable impatience rising in my chest and suddenly remembered something related to Arensbach. There should have been fabric sent by Ferdinand.

"...How about using the fabric sent from Arensbach? Since it's thin, I think it would be easy to use for summer outfits. For example, layering it like flower petals over the skirt part like this, or layering it on this sleeve part like this would let the dyed patterns underneath show through and change the atmosphere," I suggested.

"That sounds lovely. I’d like to wear an outfit like that," Berthilde said, her eyes shining brightly as she picked up the petal-layered design. Everyone smiled warmly but reminded, "Right now, we’re deciding on Lady Rosemine’s outfits."

After roughly deciding on the design to facilitate ordering, it was already dinnertime. To avoid improper behavior in public, dinner was brought to my room, and I ate slowly. Eating gracefully like a noble required attention to small movements, and with my unfamiliar body, it was difficult. When I cut meat as before, the plate and cutlery made loud noises, and when I tried to eat smoothly, the positions of the spoon and mouth didn’t match my senses, so adjustments were necessary.
