With the possibility that Georgine and somewhere in the central area might be connected, I began to feel uneasy. Reno smiled gently at me.
“Lady Rosemine, I understand why you feel anxious, but handling this is Aub’s responsibility. As a lord candidate, shouldn’t your focus be on the territory competition? It has come quite close while you were bedridden.”
Brunhilde nodded in agreement with Reno's words.
“Yes. We established connections with Zent during the dedication ceremony, and there is also joint research with three major territories. Since we expect more visitors than last year, preparations will be challenging.”
“Rosemine, those two are right. Leave the decisions to Father and let us get started on preparing for the territory competition. How is the joint research with Arensbach progressing?”
Wilfried’s question made me shift my focus slightly. As everyone said, I must tackle the tasks at hand.
“The joint research with Arensbach will begin after reading the letter we received and once Richarda’s permission to go out is granted. Basically, since the exhibition and presentations are planned to be held in Arensbach, there’s little for me to handle directly.”
While I was bedridden, a letter arrived via Ehrenfest’s boundary gate. The main letter was from Leticia of Arensbach, but it also included a letter from Ferdinand. Since reading Ferdinand’s letter tends to raise my spirits and thus my fever, I was told to wait until I felt better before reading it.
“How is the joint research with Drevannel going?”
Wilfried and Charlotte explained the progress of the joint research with Drevannel. Wilfried, who had coordinated the joint research with Dunkelfelger, took the lead in discussing the presentation with Drevannel.
“The common research topics include the qualities and properties of Ehrenfest’s magic paper, methods to improve its quality, and its previous applications.”
“And for the parts involving magic tools and new inventions, each territory will present separately.”
It's a similar arrangement to the joint research with Dunkelfelger. It’s good that the major territories don’t monopolize all the research results and that each territory can present their own findings.
“It’s fortunate that the presentation isn’t solely under Drevannel’s name. What new inventions does Ehrenfest have? I haven’t received any reports, so I’m not sure.”
I had once suggested the idea of creating an instrument that plays music automatically, so I looked at Marianne. Marianne lowered her gaze awkwardly.
“...Drevannel has already started researching musical instruments. We have tried as well, but their work is superior.”
It seems my idea was taken away. Marianne and Ignatz apologized as they explained. The research Ehrenfest can present includes only inferior versions of Drevannel’s inventions. Despite being granted the large stage of joint research with the major territories, they couldn’t produce good results, and I could see their shoulders slump.
“Sister, please don’t blame them too much. This is their first joint research with a major territory, and Drevannel’s work simply surpassed their efforts.”
Charlotte defended them, but I shook my head, saying, “I don’t intend to blame anyone.”
Since I know how to improve the quality of magic paper and want to enhance the value of the paper made in Ehrenfest, we have met the minimum requirements in the jointly presented basic parts.
“But it would be sad if we had no inventions that attract attention at all. Since we have the chance, let’s create books that automatically return to their bookcases. Please improve the quality of Nanceve paper as much as possible. Once we have Nanceve paper capable of moving books, the magic circle already exists.”
Combined with the magic circle Raimund taught me, I think we can move Ehrenfest’s thin and light books, even if we can’t move heavier books from other territories. If books placed a little away could automatically return to the bookcase, a demonstration would surely attract attention.
