Ascendance of a Bookworm

Chapter 295: Acquisition of the Stave 🪄

Published: August 15, 2025

The morning was spent practicing the Fischpiel and making reference books. At the temple, from after breakfast until the third bell, it was Fischpiel practice time. Rosina told everyone to practice, so everyone somehow gathered in the multipurpose hall with their Fischpiel, and thus we ended up practicing together.

I was preparing for the tea party with the teachers, while the others practiced according to their levels. In other grades, more students had finished their lectures, so until the third bell, everyone in the multipurpose hall was practicing Fischpiel. Those who wanted to study during this time were supposed to do so in their rooms, but the noise bothered them and they couldn’t concentrate, so after a while, some brought their Fischpiel out to join the practice.

“Previously, we didn’t allocate such dedicated practice time for Fischpiel, so the amount of practice has probably decreased. The number of praises for musical skills has diminished as the grades advanced.”

“Then maybe it would be good to set fixed hours for music practice every year.”

While I practiced the piece I would perform at the tea party, Rosina was revising the lyrics of a new song.

“Lady Rosemine, since this is a song praising the goddess of wisdom Mestionora, wouldn’t it be better to celebrate Gultrishite instead of the library?”

Gultrishite is the oldest Sacred Scripture held by the goddess of wisdom Mestionora, and it seems the first king chosen by the gods was allowed to copy it.

More and more mythology-related content was added to the lyrics, which gradually eroded my passion for the library and shifted the lyrics to praise the goddess of wisdom Mestionora herself. Eventually, my original lyrics would almost disappear.

…Well, I guess my feelings for the library aren’t really accepted by those around me.

“Since it’s a special occasion, could you write the lyrics from the start, Rosina? If I write them praising the library, I don’t know when a blessing might suddenly pop out.”

“Oh, since it’s a song praising the gods, I think it’s perfectly fine for Lady Rosemine to play the Fischpiel, offer prayers, and receive blessings.”

At the temple, the house of the gods, under the artistic shrine maiden’s guidance, my musician training is somewhat sheltered, so my awareness about blessings seems a bit off. If blessings happen at the noble academy, it usually causes quite a stir, but I don’t think the artistic shrine maiden really understands that.

“I’d rather avoid blessings popping out as much as possible.”

“…I see. Understood. Let’s avoid lyrics related to the library then.”

After the third bell rang, we finished Fischpiel practice, helped Hartmut with making reference books for the civil official course, and reviewed the lessons.

“Lady Rosemine, do you intend to attend the civil official apprentice lectures as well?”

“Yes, since I want to be a librarian, I’m taking the civil official apprentice lectures alongside the lord candidate courses.”

I told them I had already consulted with Lord Ferdinand and looked over what the current third-year students were studying.

“Lady Rosemine, aren’t you aiming to become Aub Ehrenfest?”

“I’ve never once wanted to take on such a troublesome position. I want to be a librarian at the library. My current dream is to stay at the temple as the saint of Ehrenfest and privatize the temple library, or while assisting the lord’s work, privatize the castle’s library. That is my ambition.”

Ideally, rather than becoming a librarian myself, it would be best to marry someone who owns a big library and live without ever leaving it, but of course, I can’t really share such dreams with my attendants.

“So, if you feel that being my attendant won’t lead anywhere for your future, please feel free to let me know anytime. I’ll grant your wishes.”

The afternoon practical lesson was about acquiring the stave.

The stave is the best tool for handling one’s own mana most efficiently and as freely as possible. Once you obtain it, you can finally become a full-fledged noble.
