After chatting a bit with Hilsure about the high priest’s old stories, I was asked whether I could repair a magic tool that the high priest had made during his student days. However, I immediately declined with a polite “Unfortunately, no.” I can’t be seen as the same as the high priest.
“So, what did the letter from Lord Ferdinand say? You seem to know quite a bit about the confidential information he instructed you to keep secret…”
“It is common knowledge at the noble academy that you were attacked in your own territory and fell into a deep sleep in Yureve. According to the exclusive physician monitoring your condition, there is a possibility you won’t awaken by winter, which could delay your admission to the academy. At the spring lords’ council meeting, Ehrenfest submitted a request to provide documentation regarding the physician’s assessment and to apply special measures.”
Noble children who turn ten enter the noble academy and study until adulthood. This is necessary to be officially recognized as nobles. Therefore, if circumstances prevent admission, special measures exist.
The special measures allow enrollment not just during winter but throughout the year, with the requirement to complete the designated courses by adulthood. This means teachers must be stationed at the academy, so the lord must apply in advance.
The most common use of these measures was after political upheavals. To compensate for the sharp decline in nobles, former azure priest apprentices and blue shrine maiden apprentices who returned to secular life were admitted to the noble academy through special measures.
“The information I personally know includes that Lord Ferdinand is your guardian, you’ve just awakened and have difficulty moving your body, so you wear a magic tool, which might cause challenges in practical magic, so we’d like consideration for that, and also, you have quite a unique way of thinking, which might lead to interesting ideas… That’s about it.”
…Interesting ideas? I appreciate the high priest’s consideration, but somehow I can’t feel gratitude straightforwardly.
“I’ve heard from the students that your sudden improvement in classroom grades at Ehrenfest in recent years is thanks to the saint, and Lord Ferdinand has also spoken highly of you. We look forward to your lectures from the second year onward, where you will actually craft magic tools.”
The control of mana took quite a bit of time, and in the waiting room outside the classroom, Richarda and Brother Cornelius, who had already finished their assignments, looked very worried.
“You were late. It’s impossible for Lady Rosemine to struggle with mana control, so we got really worried something might have happened.”
Like Wilfried, Brother Cornelius also seems convinced that I shouldn’t have any trouble managing mana. I slowly shook my head.
“I’m having trouble controlling my mana because of the magic tool I wear to move freely.”
The truth is, I’m overwhelmed by the mana that was released in Yureve, but today’s failure in control was partly because of the magic tool.
“Oh, so there are such side effects. I hadn’t thought much about it since Rosemine was moving normally. Did you talk with Teacher Hilsure about countermeasures?”
“He said I just have to get used to it.”
“…I see. Then, let’s return to the dormitory.”
Returning to the dormitory through Door 13, Angelica ran up to me with glistening blue eyes.
“Lady Rosemine, please allow me to undertake a guard mission as well. Now that you are going to the noble academy with more time for protection, I feel I haven’t been doing my job properly.”
Though her tearful expression seems like a beautiful girl distressed by having no tasks from her master, I’m not fooled. Angelica’s words mean, “Since Lady Rosemine has come to the noble academy, I want to reduce study time by taking on guard duties.”
While everyone is desperately studying, Angelica is only thinking about avoiding study. Glancing up at Brother Cornelius, his jet-black eyes met mine and nodded once. His expression clearly said, “Put Angelica in her place.”
