“Steward, what’s wrong with you?” Linghu Yunfei, who was sitting in a chair, asked with a raised eyebrow.
Jia He took a deep breath to calm himself before speaking, “Second Young Master, something unexpected has happened. The City Lord has gone missing!”
Linghu Yunfei’s expression changed, and he immediately stood up. “What do you mean missing? How could that happen?”
Jia He hurriedly explained, “The City Lord was last seen heading towards the Emerald Wave Canyon two days ago, and he hasn't returned since. I've sent people to search, but there’s no trace of him.”
Linghu Yunfei clenched his fists, his heart racing. “This isn’t good. We need to act quickly. Gather everyone, and let’s head to the Emerald Wave Canyon at once!”
“Yes, Second Young Master!” Jia He replied, nodding vigorously.
As they rushed out of the City Lord's Mansion, a sense of urgency filled the air. The disappearance of the City Lord could mean trouble for the entire city, and they needed to find him before it was too late.
The two made their way through the streets, where many citizens looked worried, sensing that something was amiss. Linghu Yunfei felt the weight of responsibility on his shoulders; he had to ensure the safety of the city and its people.
Arriving at the southern horizon, they quickly gathered a group of skilled cultivators, ready to head into the depths of the Emerald Wave Canyon. Linghu Yunfei took a moment to check his gear, preparing himself for the challenges that lay ahead.
“Remember, we must stay vigilant. The canyon is full of dangers, and we don’t know what might have happened to the City Lord,” he reminded the group.
With a determined expression, Linghu Yunfei led the way, stepping onto the primordial divine step to enhance his speed. The group followed closely behind, their hearts racing with anticipation and fear.
As they approached the Emerald Wave Canyon, the atmosphere grew heavy, and an eerie silence enveloped the area. Linghu Yunfei couldn’t shake the feeling that they were being watched.
“Stay alert,” he whispered, as they entered the canyon, ready to face whatever challenges awaited them.
Jia He spoke in a low voice, “City Lord, the Second Young Master is dead, killed by Tan Yun!”
Privately, Jia He had always referred to Linghu Yunfei's illegitimate son as the Second Young Master.
Linghu Yunfei was filled with grief and anger, saying, “This is infuriating! Tan Yun killed my Chong’er and now he has killed Ping’er. Is he trying to wipe out my lineage?”
“Steward, what on earth happened? Didn’t I tell you to inform him to hide?”
However, Jia He’s subsequent response made Linghu Yunfei so furious that he could hardly breathe.
Jia He continued softly, “City Lord, Old Servant did indeed notify the Second Young Master.”
“The Second Young Master didn’t dare to slack off; he hid within the manor, yet he was still dragged out and killed by Tan Yun!”
“City Lord, this Tan Yun is ruthless and merciless, he is simply inhuman, a devil!”
Linghu Yunfei, having lost two sons in rapid succession, appeared to age several decades in an instant. He sighed deeply, sitting powerless in his chair, and waved his hand at Jia He, “I’m tired, you may leave.”
Just as Jia He turned to take two steps, Linghu Yunfei's voice came from behind, “Stop.”
“City Lord, what is your command?” Jia He asked.
Linghu Yunfei said, “Go, buy me some rock candy.”
“Understood.” Jia He responded, feeling puzzled. The City Lord never had a habit of eating candy; what did he need it for?
With doubts in his mind, Jia He left and returned the next day, carrying a plate of cubed rock candy, placing it on the table in front of Linghu Yunfei.
Linghu Yunfei picked up a piece, placed it in his mouth, closed his eyes, and lay back in his chair, waving his hand at Jia He to indicate he should leave.
In the blink of an eye, three days passed.
“Report!” A celestial general descended from the sky, landing in front of Linghu Yunfei.
