Chapter 89: Spear and Shield

Han Li turned his head to glance at Sect Master Wang. He saw Wang Juechu’s expression darken as he discussed something with three unfamiliar men beside him, their faces marked by the weariness of years. It seemed even they found the golden light surrounding the dwarf troublesome.

Master Golden Light’s eerie laughter rang out again. Throwing his head back and flaring his nostrils arrogantly, he shouted, “I will stand still and let you attack as you please. If anyone can break through my vajra indestructible technique, then I might just spare your life.” After saying this, he laughed mockingly once more.

These words completely enraged the disciples of the seven mysteries sect, who had previously harbored some fear of the golden shield. Several strong martial artists immediately tried to surge forward and rush at the dwarf, but Sect Master Wang stopped them.

Wang Juechu waved his hand, recalling the protectors still standing in the arena. He then whispered a few words to a burly man among the three companions at his side. The man nodded and strode forward with pride, approaching the dwarf.

The dwarf glared viciously at the bearded man before him.

Born with physical deformities and mocked since childhood, the dwarf harbored deep hatred toward tall and powerful men like this one. He was already contemplating what brutal methods to use to torment his opponent.

The shirtless, bearded man was one of Wang Juechu’s three senior uncles. Despite his rugged appearance, he was well past sixty. As a once-renowned fierce general of the seven mysteries sect, who had slain countless enemies, he was naturally cautious when facing the strange golden shield.

The man carefully examined the golden glow and then looked at Master Golden Light inside it. He cracked a smile and suddenly flicked two fingers against the shield with a clear “clang.”

This casual gesture infuriated Master Golden Light. He sneered darkly, “You brute, do you want me to send you off to reincarnate sooner?”

The man remained unfazed. Instead, he stepped to the dwarf’s side, then lifted his leg and moved behind him.

Circling around Master Golden Light as the center, the man’s steps grew wider and faster. In the blink of an eye, his figure became a blur, impossible to track.

Dizzy from the ceaseless circling, Master Golden Light’s anger flared. Without hesitation, he reached into his robe, seemingly to retrieve something.

The bearded man saw this clearly.

Suddenly, he let out a long, powerful roar, like a dragon’s cry or a tiger’s howl. The rich, resonant sound echoed across Sunset Peak, making everyone’s ears ring and even causing nearby tree branches to tremble.

Master Golden Light was stunned by the roar, his limbs weakening, hands stuck inside his robe.

Then came sharp, crisp popping sounds of cracking joints from the man, growing faster and louder until, like a torrential storm, they drowned out even the roar.

When the man came to a stop in front of the dwarf again, both the roar and popping noises ceased abruptly.

People waking from their daze now noticed the man’s body had swollen massively. His chest and arms bulged with muscles shining black and hard as forged iron. Compared to the dwarf, he now looked like a giant.

Seizing this moment of respite, Master Golden Light finally pulled out a long, black wooden box sealed with a talisman paper.

Before the dwarf could tear the talisman, the giant-like man slammed a huge, fan-shaped fist onto the golden shield without mercy. The golden glow wavered and warped violently, shaking the dwarf so much he could not stay still enough to remove the talisman.

Master Golden Light was shocked. He fully understood the shield’s power, and for it to bend like clay under the man’s blows meant an enormous force was at play. His previous disdain vanished, and he hastened his efforts to tear the talisman.

With a ripping sound, the talisman paper finally came off.

Master Golden Light’s face lit up with joy. Suddenly, “bang bang” sounds of impact rang out repeatedly from the shield. His body shook uncontrollably until he fell to the ground.
