Chapter 843: Moths to a Flame

In the distance, a flash of light appeared on the horizon. High in the sky, a vast expanse of strange black and purple light shimmered and flickered relentlessly, spreading across half the sky. Beneath it, a lush green cloud several acres in size slowly rose, swirling gently under the eerie glow. The intertwining of the green cloud and the strange light was accompanied by a rumbling roar.

That thunderous roar came faintly from there.

Within the black and purple light surged a demonic energy as turbulent as a stormy sea. All three of them were very familiar with this demonic energy—it was exactly the same as the aura that the Marquis of Nanlong had displayed just after transforming into the two-headed, four-armed form. Only, the demonic energy now floating in the sky was far more terrifying. Even sensing it from a distance was suffocating.

Ancestor Linghu’s face changed drastically. The black and purple light and the green cloud were rapidly approaching their position and would soon be very close.

“The abdominal corpse poison cloud! That’s the poisonous mist formed by Fellow cultivator Wei’s toxic arts. Ordinary cultivators who come into contact with it die instantly. I have seen Fellow cultivator Wei use it once,” the woman in white said with a pleased expression upon seeing the green cloud.

Han Li and Ancestor Linghu exchanged a strange look, both seeing deep fear reflected in each other’s eyes.

Although the green cloud was imposing, it was clearly suppressed beneath the black and purple light. Whatever demon creature had fought Wei Wuya must have been so powerful that even a late nascent soul cultivator was no match for it. But such an intense aura definitely wasn’t emanating from the Marquis of Nanlong who had just slipped away.

The woman in white wasn’t foolish either. Upon seeing Han Li and Ancestor Linghu’s expressions, she immediately understood the situation and her face darkened.

“We should still…” She hesitated, about to suggest something when suddenly a cold spiritual awareness swept over the three of them. The woman in white suddenly cut off mid-sentence.

Han Li’s heart tightened, and Ancestor Linghu’s expression grew even more grim.

“Right now, all three of us have been locked onto by whatever is over there. If we don’t leave now, we probably won’t be able to later. The demon creature that attacked us earlier has gone over there as well. If it teams up to attack Fellow cultivator Wei, even with his profound cultivation, he won’t last long. Do you two plan to go assist Fellow cultivator Wei, or do we part ways now and wait until he falls, after which those demon creatures hunt each of us separately? Then we each follow our own mandate of heaven,” Han Li said coldly after a brief silence.

He had just used his spiritual awareness to probe beneath the black and purple light, only to find the spiritual energy fluctuations were astonishingly intense. His spiritual awareness couldn’t get close at all. This made his heart sink slightly. It indicated that the cultivators involved in the battle were far beyond his level.

Ancestor Linghu and the woman in white exchanged glances upon hearing Han Li’s words.

If it were possible, these two who had just narrowly escaped death naturally didn’t want to rush back into a desperate fight with the demon creatures. However, as Han Li said, if Wei Wuya lost control of the situation, they wouldn’t have the confidence to escape from the valley. After all, they had already delved deep into the Inner Valley.

Moreover, if Wei Wuya survived but later found out they abandoned him to die, as fellow cultivators of the nine nations alliance, that would bring great trouble for their sects. Both were senior elders of their respective sects and would bring disaster upon Moon Veil Sect and Yellow Maple Valley.

But sacrificing themselves for their sects in a fight with zero chance of success was something neither was willing to do. They were full of hesitation.
