Chapter 8: Entry Disciples
After nearly half a year of intense cultivation, Han Li finally stood before Doctor Mo to undergo his test.
Zhang Tie, nervous and awkward, stood close beside Han Li. It was no surprise—Han Li had already heard from him that after nearly half a year of practice, Zhang Tie had made no progress with this set of incantations.
Han Li knew that Zhang Tie’s dedication to cultivating this incantation was no less serious than his own. Although he couldn’t match Han Li’s reckless intensity, the effort Zhang Tie put into it was considerable. He was undoubtedly diligent and earnest.
But strangely, the incantation had no effect on Zhang Tie at all. No matter how hard he worked, he could not see the slightest result. It seemed this incantation was simply not meant for him.
Han Li’s heart was uneasy and unsettled. He knew Zhang Tie was almost certainly going to fail this assessment. Although he himself had made some progress, it was hardly much better.
Despite his desperate cultivation, the only change was that the strange energy flow inside him became slightly stronger. If before it was as thin as a hair, now it was about as thick as a cotton thread. But whether this would be enough to pass Doctor Mo’s test, Han Li had no confidence. His heart was tense and anxious.
“Are you both ready? Show me your cultivation results,” Doctor Mo said coldly, narrowing his eyes as he sat in the grand armchair, staring at the two of them.
“We’re ready,” the two answered nervously.
Doctor Mo slowly stood up from the chair and placed the book that never left his side on the table.
“Stretch out your hands.”
“Show me your energy flow.”
Doctor Mo grabbed Zhang Tie’s right wrist, feeling his pulse, while placing his other hand above Zhang Tie’s dantian.
After a short period of time, he withdrew his hands and carefully examined Zhang Tie from head to toe with an expressionless face.
Zhang Tie’s face flushed red. He hastily put his hands behind his back and lowered his head, unable to look at Doctor Mo. He knew Doctor Mo had surely noticed that he had made no progress with the incantations, and now likely wouldn’t show him any kindness.
“Your turn,” Doctor Mo said.
Surprisingly, Doctor Mo showed no sign of reprimanding Zhang Tie. Only a slight look of disappointment flashed in his eyes before he turned to Han Li.
As usual, Doctor Mo grabbed Han Li’s right wrist to feel his pulse.
“So cold, icy cold, not like the hand of a living person at all,” Han Li thought irritably.
Doctor Mo’s skin was dry and covered with calluses, making his grip on Han Li’s skin slightly prickly. This was Han Li’s first impression of Doctor Mo’s hands.
Perhaps stimulated by this external touch, the energy inside Han Li began to move on its own, even before he consciously activated it. It traveled through the strange meridians, passing through various acupuncture points around his body—from his dantian to his head, then to his limbs, quickly making a circuit before returning to the dantian. As the energy flowed, the slight discomfort on Han Li’s skin immediately disappeared.
“Ah!” Doctor Mo involuntarily called out, clearly having discovered the energy within Han Li.
“Quick, run the incantation again!” Though Doctor Mo tried to control his expression and not show joy, the fanatic gleam in his eyes surprised Han Li.
“Take your time. Let me examine carefully,” Doctor Mo added, his usually cold voice now hurried, placing his other hand on Han Li’s dantian.
Han Li felt Doctor Mo’s hands tremble slightly—he was very excited. So he obediently ran the energy through the incantation once more.
“Not bad! Not bad! This is the feeling I want, exactly this! No mistake! No mistake! Haha...”
After carefully checking again, Doctor Mo could no longer contain himself and burst into laughter. He grabbed Han Li’s shoulders tightly, his squinted eyes wide open, staring at Han Li as if he was looking at a rare treasure, his gaze tinged with a hint of madness.
