Chapter 787: Devouring Demons and Consuming Ghosts
All the pale white skulls let out a roar, their mouths spewing bluish-green ghost fire as they charged straight toward Han Li. Naturally, as they surged forward several yards, countless golden threads appeared and swiftly flashed past.
However, this time, a different situation arose.
After the golden threads swept over them, although several fine cracks appeared on the surface of the skulls, a flash of green light followed, sealing the cracks as if they had never been damaged. The ghost heads remained completely unimpeded, still rushing to attack Han Li.
Seeing this, Han Li was momentarily stunned but soon understood. These ghost heads were no longer flesh and blood; they had been refined into some kind of strange yin ghost bodies. Although his sword threads were powerful, since the opponents had become intangible entities, they were immune to the harm of blades and swords and could not be simply slashed to death.
However, Han Li was not alarmed. He silently activated his spell formation again.
In front of the oncoming ghost heads, a loud thunderclap erupted, and a golden net flickering with electric light suddenly appeared in the air, directly covering the charge.
Since the opponents were phantoms, Han Li naturally did not hold back and unleashed the evil-repelling divine thunder stored in his flying sword.
Unexpectedly, when the ghost heads saw the golden net appear, although their bodies momentarily paused and showed signs of fear, under the fierce howl of the lead curved-horn ghost head, they opened their mouths and spewed the bluish-green ghost fire like a terrifying rainbow directly at the net.
With a thunderous roar, electric arcs flickered across the golden net, extinguishing many of the ghost fires. Yet the downward momentum suddenly stalled, as the continuous stream of ghost fire stubbornly pushed back against it, preventing it from falling.
Han Li furrowed his brow, showing a look of surprise.
If it were ordinary ghost fire, it would have long since been reduced to ashes upon contact with the evil-repelling divine thunder. But this ghost fire, though suppressed, could barely resist the electric arc’s power, which genuinely surprised Han Li. The Ghost Luo Banner, reputed as the sect’s treasure of the Yin Luo Sect, was truly no empty boast.
On the other side, the young man in the black robe, seeing that the demons inside the banner could withstand the evil-repelling divine thunder, couldn’t help but smile and exhale deeply.
Though he appeared confident outwardly, inwardly he was just as anxious.
If the banner remained undamaged and the demons inside retained full vital energy, he wouldn’t be too worried. But since the last great battle, the banner had not had the chance to absorb large amounts of yin souls and repair itself. Facing such a divine thunder now, naturally, he felt uneasy.
Now that his worries were dispelled, the young man’s sinister smile widened as he continuously struck the banner with his spell formation. The several-foot-wide holes on the banner suddenly expanded to about ten feet in diameter in the green light.
More skull heads swarmed out of the banner, emitting sharp cries as ghost energy surged around, accompanied by ghostly wails and wolf howls.
With many skull heads holding the golden net at the front, the others charging out from the banner did not hesitate but surged forward fiercely toward Han Li.
For a moment, ghostly howls filled the air before Han Li.
Yet Han Li was calm and silent. He lightly tapped one of the spiritual beast pouches at his waist.
A black light shot forth from the pouch. After circling around, it landed on the ground. The light dimmed, revealing a small, jet-black monkey — the wailing soul beast.
The beast seemed just awakened, blinking its dull eyes before sniffing deeply. Suddenly its eyes snapped wide open.
It immediately spotted the swarming ghost heads nearby and excitedly began chittering wildly.
The once fierce skull heads had already gathered within about ten yards before Han Li. Upon seeing the wailing soul beast, they suddenly trembled, circling in place and unwilling to advance any further. Their ghostly howls significantly diminished, revealing a timid, fearful demeanor.
