Chapter 70: Provocation
Sect Master Ma seemed to sense the awkwardness between the two. Not only did he not worry, but a faint smile appeared on his face.
“Although Doctor Han is young, his medical skills are truly extraordinary. I believe Elder Li can surely bring him back from the brink of death,” he suddenly praised Han Li’s medical skills.
“Really? So young, and already that skilled? I don’t quite believe it. Could his skills be even better than Doctor Mo’s?” This elder had a fiery temper. With just a slight provocation, he fell into the trap and bluntly expressed his distrust in front of Han Li.
As soon as these words were spoken, the relatives nearby were at a loss.
They certainly could not agree—after all, they were still hoping this young divine doctor could detoxify and save the patient!
But to refute such words seemed inappropriate, since Elder Li was a close friend of the other elder and also senior to most present.
“Heh! Elder Zhao doesn’t know. Doctor Han is Doctor Mo’s proud disciple. His skills have surpassed his master’s, far beyond Doctor Mo,” Sect Master Ma rejoiced inwardly and poured more fuel onto the fire.
“He’s just a kid barely into his teens, learning from birth. How skilled could he really be? I still don’t believe it unless I see it with my own eyes,” Elder Zhao shook his head vigorously, still unaware he had walked right into a trap and offended someone he shouldn’t have. He seemed reckless, but how such a person could hold an elder’s position without falling is beyond understanding.
Han Li rolled his eyes silently. Did his medical skills really need their validation? He knew Sect Master Ma was deliberately provoking the other elder, but it still annoyed him a bit.
It was clear that Elder Zhao and Sect Master Ma were from different factions and there was some hostility between them.
“Elder Zhao’s Hun Yuan Hand technique is also practiced to perfection, extremely powerful!” Sect Master Ma noticed Han Li’s displeased expression and, feeling even more pleased, suddenly changed the subject and cryptically said something perplexing.
“Hmph! It can’t compare to Sect Master Ma’s Mysterious Yin Finger,” Elder Zhao retorted bluntly, apparently unconcerned with Ma’s status.
“Haha! Elder Zhao flatters me too much,”
Sect Master Ma was clearly a man who hid daggers behind a smile. He took Elder Zhao’s sarcastic words lightly and accepted the false compliment with a cheerful grin.
Elder Zhao had encountered such situations before and felt helpless. He didn’t want to keep arguing with such shameless opponents, so he fell silent, though he was still puzzled why Sect Master Ma would suddenly drop such a remark in front of so many juniors.
Although Sect Master Ma was from a different faction, it was the first time he openly exposed high-level faction conflicts like this in public. There had to be some trick behind it.
Han Li remained expressionless as he listened to their verbal sparring, pretending ignorance. But he clearly understood Sect Master Ma was again sowing discord between himself and other senior members.
Since Sect Master Ma first made contact, he had repeatedly hinted at wanting this skilled divine doctor to join his faction to expand his own influence.
But Han Li never had any intention of getting involved in the seven mysteries sect’s power struggles.
Not out of arrogance, but after meeting masters like Doctor Mo and Yu Zitong, and especially after learning two types of magic, his perspective had grown far beyond the petty fights of a small sect. Even if a man must have power every day, he would never submit under someone like Sect Master Ma to act as a pawn.
Though Han Li’s strength was considerable, he didn’t want to offend Sect Master Ma, so he played a delaying game—neither agreeing nor outright rejecting, simply giving vague answers.
This made Sect Master Ma headache with frustration.
Because Han Li gave no definite reply and his medical skills were indispensable, Sect Master Ma could not use force. So the matter of Han Li joining his faction dragged on indefinitely without resolution.
