Chapter 69: Li Feiyu and the Young Girl
Elder Li’s residence was neither luxurious nor large; it was just an ordinary house. Surrounding a few adjoining side rooms was a simple courtyard enclosed by a two-meter-high, half-meter-thick earth wall. On the side facing the entrance, there was a crescent-shaped archway. Through the half-open wooden door, many visitors could be seen inside the courtyard.
Once inside, Han Li realized that the actual number of people present was far more than what he had seen from outside. They gathered in small groups, quietly discussing Elder Li’s injuries.
Han Li had heard long ago that Elder Li was one of the few kind-hearted senior members of the seven mysteries sect. He rarely lost his temper, whether dealing with lower-level disciples or peers, and never engaged in power struggles within the sect. Such a good-natured man naturally earned universal praise, making him extremely well-liked. Now that Elder Li had fallen ill, those with some standing in the sect, whether sincerely or out of proper etiquette, personally came or sent representatives to visit him. This explained the crowd gathered before him.
As soon as Han Li entered, the people inside immediately recognized him. Instantly, lower-ranking protectors and the like swarmed over, each eager to greet him.
“Greetings, divine doctor Han!”
“Doctor Han is here!”
…
The continuous waves of cordial greetings filled his ears—he couldn’t avoid hearing them even if he tried.
Looking at these enthusiastic faces, Han Li smiled brightly in return, responding politely to everyone without fail. Yet inwardly, he was utterly weary of these superficial exchanges.
Fortunately, those of higher status—the few vice hall masters and attendants—maintained some dignity. They merely nodded subtly at Han Li, signaling acknowledgment, but didn’t come closer.
Their behavior earned Han Li’s slight approval—at least he wouldn’t have to greet more of the high-ups.
Ma Rong, on the other hand, was too low in rank to join the conversation. He could only stand aside anxiously, watching Han Li mingle with the others while nervously rubbing his hands.
Finally, after Han Li greeted the last person, Ma Rong couldn’t wait any longer. He rushed forward, grabbed Han Li’s arm, and pulled him inside the house. This impulsive act drew some displeased looks from those hoping to forge a friendship with the divine doctor.
Han Li gave a wry smile on the surface, but inside he was genuinely glad. At last, he could escape the endless, nagging socializing without offending anyone.
Thus, Han Li was directly led by Ma Rong into the living room.
There weren’t many people inside. Besides a few family members, there were two elders and Vice Sect Master Ma as well. What surprised Han Li most was that Li Feiyu was also there.
This caught Han Li off guard. As far as he knew, Li Feiyu had no connection with Elder Li. Why was he here?
While Han Li’s mind filled with questions, he noticed Li Feiyu standing next to a petite girl with tear-stained cheeks, gently comforting her. The attentive manner was entirely different from how he usually acted around fellow disciples or even in Han Li’s presence. It was blatantly obvious he was ensnared by love’s longing.
Seeing Li Feiyu so deeply entangled in affection, Han Li suddenly understood everything. He was both surprised and amused.
He quickly took a closer look at the girl to see what kind of enchanting beauty had managed to capture such a reckless outlaw as Li Feiyu.
The girl looked about fifteen or sixteen years old, with a jade hairpin tucked in her hair. She wore a lotus-green dress that matched her petite frame perfectly. Her long black hair was braided into two small pigtails resting behind her back, giving her already sweet face a hint of mischief. However, her eyes were a bit swollen and red, making her appear pitiful and vulnerable—eliciting an urge to hold her gently and cherish her.
“Tsk tsk! She truly is a genuine little beauty,” Han Li admired silently. He found it understandable that Li Feiyu had fallen for her but also felt a touch of envy, wondering when he might have such a cherished confidante of his own.
