Chapter 679: Fragmented Talisman
It was one thing for the five elements spell talismans among the advanced talismans, but most advanced spells were still not as powerful as the magical treasures used by cultivators.
As a result, once cultivators reached the foundation formation stage, they basically gave up on continuing to cultivate five elements spells.
However, this did not mean that advanced spells were completely useless.
According to Han Li’s knowledge, there were many powerful five elements spells that, once cast, even nascent soul stage cultivators dared not block head-on.
But these spells were not only difficult to cultivate, even after comprehending and mastering them, their casting was cumbersome and complicated.
If one had that much time, it was better to just directly use a magical treasure to attack.
However, Han Li had vaguely heard other cultivators mention that the spellmasters of the Mulan people seemed to have broken through this limitation. They had researched many powerful “spiritual techniques” that could be cast instantly.
This allowed low-level spellmasters to stand toe-to-toe with ordinary cultivators without using magical artifacts or talisman paper.
And when high-level spellmasters combined spiritual techniques with the use of magical treasures, it was like adding wings to a tiger—there was no doubt they could reliably defeat cultivators of the same rank.
This was why several major forces of Tian Nan had united to resist the Mulan people, and yet could only defend themselves without truly defeating them.
Since Han Li reached the nascent soul stage, he had been self-aware and began to study a few of the most rudimentary advanced spells. He had managed to grasp three or four, though his casting speed was painfully slow.
He believed that if he tried to use these spells in a magic duel, unless his opponent was protected by an impenetrable “turtle shell,” he would likely be wiped out seven or eight times over before he could finish casting even half a spell.
However, when suddenly combining advanced talismans with a magical treasure in combat, the effect was truly sharp.
If one could, like with low-level talismans, throw out twenty or thirty advanced offensive talismans in one go, even cultivators of the same rank—or even late nascent soul stage cultivators—would immediately flee.
After all, this was equivalent to receiving a combined strike from dozens of nascent soul stage cultivators. No matter how formidable the attacked cultivator’s cultivation techniques and protective magical treasures, if their cultivation base was still limited to the nascent soul stage, they absolutely could not withstand it.
But such an attack was just a fantasy. Using tens of thousands of spirit stones in a single assault, no one would dare to be so extravagant.
Moreover, advanced talismans in the immortal cultivation world were scarce and expensive, and most advanced talismans were mostly supportive in nature.
While pondering all this, Han Li walked along the streets of the market district, frequently glancing at the larger magical artifact shops and general stores on either side. Usually, only large shops might have top-tier talisman crafting brushes for sale.
There was no need to ask smaller shops. Nine times out of ten, they wouldn’t have such obscure magical artifacts on sale, let alone top-tier ones.
Perhaps some small shops might hide precious items, but Han Li was unwilling to waste time searching each one individually. With so many shops in Tian Tian City, it would take him at least ten days to visit them all if he tried.
Besides Han Li on the street, other cultivators were constantly entering and exiting shops on both sides, conducting their own trades in pursuit of desired items.
Most of them were foundation establishment stage cultivators, with the occasional foundation formation stage cultivator appearing.
As for qi refining stage cultivators, aside from locals from Tian Tian City, outsiders at that stage were extremely rare.
