Chapter 649: Omen

“Exactly, Ancestor, there’s no need to worry. Seniors Sun and Mo, as well as the Fu Family, have had a relationship spanning over a hundred years. They will definitely arrive on time. Their current high status in the Demonic Flame Sect is inseparable from our Fu Family’s strong support. Besides, we’ve married off our two most outstanding women to them as concubines—how could they dare not come!”

Next to the fair-faced middle-aged man stood an elderly man with fine eyebrows and wearing a brocade robe, who also spoke respectfully.

“I’m not worried about whether old friends Sun and Mo will come. It’s just… the closer it gets to the birthday celebration, the more unsettled I feel, as if something major is about to happen. I’m really concerned! Have we recently offended any powerful figures or larger sects?” The patriarch of the Fu Family stroked his long beard, his eyes flashing coldly as the smile vanished from his face.

Hearing this, everyone in the hall exchanged uneasy glances.

After a moment, the fair-faced man cautiously replied, “Ancestor, you know! Over the years, although our Fu Family has flourished and grown strong, we have made countless enemies among families and minor sects. But the most hostile towards us are still the Qin Family and the Hu Family. Could it be that these two are plotting something?”

“It shouldn’t be those two!” The Fu Family patriarch shook his head coldly. “Those two families once rivaled us, but now they hardly have any advanced-stage cultivators left. How could they still cause trouble?”

After frowning and hesitating for a moment, he added, “However, if these two families joined forces or allied with other hostile minor sects to launch a surprise attack now, it could indeed severely injure our family’s vital energy. After all, years ago, to curry favor with the Demonic Flame Sect, our Fu Family killed many cultivators from these two families who opposed the demonic path. Now, the Qin and Hu families have been forced to abandon their estates and hide in concealment. Their hatred for us runs deep—it’s not impossible that they would do this.”

The patriarch’s expression grew dark.

“What does the ancestor suggest?” the brocade-robed elder asked cautiously.

“External laxity but internal tightness! Double the number of sentinels compared to before. The fortress protection grand formation must be activated day and night, without pause. Especially, send more men to watch over those unidentified rogue cultivators,” the Fu Family patriarch said, then leaned his head back and closed his eyes but calmly issued a string of orders.

“Yes, I will arrange that immediately!” The fair-faced middle-aged man acknowledged the orders and left at once.

The few younger Fu Family members who remained in the side hall saw the patriarch’s sudden change in mood and dared not even breathe heavily as they stood silently.

“Tianyun, summon your Third Uncle and have him put the Iron-Backed Sacred Beast into a spiritual beast pouch. He will accompany me to attend the birthday celebration. Only he can command the clan’s guardian sacred beast!” the patriarch suddenly added.

“What? Didn’t the ancestor say that Third Uncle is now at a critical stage in his cultivation and should not be disturbed during this birthday?” The brocade-robed elder exclaimed in surprise.

“Hmph! That was then, this is now. Although us cultivators can’t truly foresee fortune or misfortune, sometimes these omens in the heart are incredibly accurate. To be cautious, we must take precautions. Better to be overly careful than to face a great calamity that befalls the Fu Family,” the elder snorted coldly.

“Yes, I will go summon Third Uncle immediately.” The brocade-robed elder was startled by the patriarch’s anger but obediently agreed and left.

After giving several more orders, the Fu Family patriarch finally felt somewhat at ease.

In his mind, with so many backup plans in place, whatever happens, they could handle it.
