Chapter 65: Divine Doctor Han
Han Li reclined in the grand armchair that Doctor Mo used to sit in, holding a book whose cover bore the title "Longevity Scripture," but whose actual content was a volume of the Everlasting Spring Technique’s secret formulas. He was deeply engrossed, reading with great interest.
This book had often been in Doctor Mo’s hands before, who would look at it endlessly without boredom—a peculiarity that had once puzzled Han Li. Now that he had uncovered its secret, he understood: Doctor Mo wasn’t studying some health regimen at all; he was actually pondering the formulas of the Everlasting Spring Technique!
It seemed Doctor Mo had not given up on his inability to cultivate magical power, nor fully believed Yu Zitong’s explanation about spiritual roots. Instead, he had been silently contemplating the technique on his own.
Han Li had found this secret manual tucked away in a hidden compartment along with other items. The book didn’t just include the first six layers of formulas he had practiced before; it also contained two layers of techniques he had never seen. This unexpected discovery excited Han Li for quite a long time.
Upon realizing that what he had been cultivating was actually the legendary magical power that could summon wind and rain, Han Li’s desire to learn the subsequent layers of the Everlasting Spring Technique grew even stronger.
After all, who wouldn’t want to become an immortal who lived forever?
At that moment, the sun was high, and warm sunlight poured through the open skylight, shining on Han Li’s body. He was so comfortable reading that his eyes narrowed into slits. His entire posture was lazy as he lounged slantwise.
Han Li raised his head slightly and glanced at the skylight, feeling the sunlight was a bit too dazzling.
He casually used the open book to shield his face from the blinding white light.
Then everything went dark before his eyes, and his mind felt much more relaxed. This refresher gave Han Li a renewed spirit, and he silently recited the seventh layer’s formulas once more.
Recently, he had sensed that continuous consumption of spirit medicine had triggered another breakthrough in his Everlasting Spring Technique. Soon, he would advance to the seventh layer. Getting an early understanding of the deeper techniques would be quite beneficial for breaking through his bottleneck.
It had been more than half a year since Doctor Mo’s soul takeover.
The day after that event, Han Li had forged a letter in Doctor Mo’s handwriting to cover up the signs of Doctor Mo’s death. He claimed that Doctor Mo was returning to his hometown to visit family, and handed the letter to the sect’s patrolling elders under Doctor Mo’s name.
In the letter, Han Li, impersonating Doctor Mo, boldly claimed that he had inherited all of Doctor Mo’s medical skills and was now qualified to treat patients. Doctor Mo himself, he said, would be away for an extended period due to the long journey home and didn’t know when he would return. Therefore, he asked several sect masters to allow him to temporarily take on Doctor Mo’s duties until the doctor’s return.
When the letter was delivered, the elders showed no suspicion. Doctor Mo had long been absent from the mountain due to collecting medicinal herbs and, although officially listed as a registered disciple, he was effectively a guest expert because he had once saved Sect Master Wang’s life, enjoying a great deal of freedom.
However, the elders were somewhat skeptical about the claim that Han Li had inherited all of Doctor Mo’s medical skills.
Although Doctor Mo occasionally treated minor illnesses like colds, fevers, and wounds of lower-level disciples, his extraordinary medical expertise was primarily reserved for mid- to high-level figures like hall masters and elders. Most other disciples had to see other doctors on the mountain.
So initially, the elders didn’t immediately let Han Li take over Doctor Mo’s responsibilities. Instead, they asked him to treat minor ailments for lower-level disciples first, intending to test his true skill.
