Chapter 609: Corpse Ghoul
When Han Li saw the expression on the young Black-Clad Young Woman’s face, his own complexion immediately darkened. A cold gleam flashed in his eyes, and without a word, he raised his hand and hurled the jade box directly at her.
Although he didn’t understand why she was afraid of a talisman, since she clearly harbored ill intent, Han Li naturally had no reason to be polite any longer.
Seeing this, the Black-Clad Young Woman became even more panicked. Without thinking, she slapped the stone platform beneath her with one hand, preparing to quickly rise and escape.
However, this movement apparently triggered some kind of restriction. Just as she stood up about a meter, a flash of red light surrounded her, pulling her harshly back to her original position. Her face twisted in pain.
At this moment, the jade box had already arrived in front of her and emitted a clear ringing sound. Then, changing direction on its own, it flew above her head.
The golden talisman on the box suddenly burst with brilliant light, and countless golden runes floated lightly down onto the young woman.
"No!" the Black-Clad Young Woman screamed in despair, her beautiful face instantly contorted in agony.
Then, unwilling to simply accept her fate, she quickly raised her single arm to cover her face, desperately lowering her head as if trying to hide her features in her embrace.
The runes finally landed on her shoulder. Suddenly, a flash of golden light appeared, followed immediately by a burst of green smoke.
Her body trembled violently, and an extremely piercing and unnatural shriek erupted from her mouth. The sound was sharp and grating, completely unlike anything human.
Han Li’s expression changed drastically. He involuntarily stepped back several paces, his palm sweating lightly. One hand immediately grasped the spiritual beast pouch filled with golddevourer worms, while the other gripped the Jade Ruyi Ancient Treasure tightly, his face grave as he stared silently toward the stone platform.
More runes descended, and green smoke swirled thickly around the Black-Clad Young Woman. Moments later, the entire stone platform was shrouded in smoke, with only occasional flickers of golden light breaking through. The young woman’s figure was no longer visible.
But the screams from within the green mist never ceased—not for a moment. Sometimes they rose into sharp, high-pitched wails; other times, they became rough, hoarse, and wild, shifting unpredictably between male and female tones, sending chills down the spine.
Han Li watched quietly, his heart pounding with unease. He licked his lips and held his breath.
With the appearance of this green smoke, a strong stench filled the entire room. Just inhaling a breath or two caused a wave of dizziness and nausea, shocking him greatly.
This smoke was evidently highly poisonous.
Just then, a “crack, crack” sound came from within the dense green fog.
Startled, Han Li hadn’t yet figured out the source of the noise when a sharp “whoosh” suddenly sounded.
A jade-green claw shot out from the mist like lightning. It was wrapped tightly in silver chains and aimed fiercely at Han Li, who had retreated to a corner of the stone chamber. The arm extended like a python, stretching several meters, about to grab his protective light shield.
Han Li’s expression turned cold. He tightened his grip on the Jade Ruyi, preparing to cast a spell.
But the silver chains on the ghostly claw suddenly retracted sharply. Sparks flew wildly, and a burnt, acrid smell filled the air.
A low, pained growl echoed deeply from the fog as the claw withdrew.
Han Li kept his lips tightly sealed, staring at the dense mist with an unsettled expression. After some thought, he backed up two more small steps, pressing close to the lapis lazuli wall, and infused a large amount of spiritual power into the Jade Ruyi.
Instantly, the red and yellow light shield around him thickened considerably.
Only then did he feel slightly relieved.
After the passage of about a tea break, the screams within the green mist gradually subsided. The golden talisman’s light began to dim, and the descending runes became sparse and scattered, very different from before.
