Chapter 606: Pursuit and Concealment
"This damned thing really has no breath left. Could it be that all this effort was in vain?" The short and stout young man withdrew his finger from under the White Fox's nose before Senior Brother Wang and the other two descended, cursing angrily under his breath.
After saying this, he looked up at the three descending figures, his face full of frustration, about to say more.
But the three above suddenly changed their expressions and shouted in unison:
"Be careful!"
"The demonic fox is alive!"
"It's playing dead!"
Three different phrases, all conveying the same meaning.
The short and stout youth was quick-witted. Upon hearing this, his expression suddenly changed. Without hesitation, he waved his hand, producing a white talisman between his fingers, which he forcefully slapped toward the small beast whose tail he still held.
His movement was clearly a bit slow. Just as his arm extended halfway to release the talisman, a sudden, tearing pain shot through his palm.
He cried out, involuntarily relaxing his fingers, and the White Fox slipped smoothly to the ground.
In that instant, the fine hairs on the Snow Cloud Fox’s tail bristled and became as hard as needles, piercing the short and stout youth’s palm into a thousand wounds, blood dripping profusely.
The three above, seeing this, rushed angrily toward the four-legged animal that had landed on the ground.
But the White Fox, having barely won its freedom, was not about to wait quietly to be caught again. With a leap, it transformed into a white shadow, shooting dozens of yards away. After a few bounds, it dove into a nearby thicket.
In their urgency, Senior Brother Wang and the others moved with incredible agility, swiftly encircling the thicket. They then each released a magical artifact and began to search carefully.
However, moments later, the three were stunned.
Apart from a pile of scattered stones, the thicket was completely empty. The Snow Cloud Fox, which had clearly jumped in here, had vanished without a trace.
They stood there stunned, momentarily at a loss.
"Hey! Junior Brother Han, where are you going?" Kui Huan suddenly snapped back to reality and instinctively glanced upward, then exclaimed in surprise.
Only then did the others notice Han Li was controlling a magical artifact, flying swiftly off toward the distance.
Senior Brother Wang and the others were baffled.
At that moment, Han Li’s voice echoed in their minds.
"Senior Brothers, don’t panic. That little creature used a deceptive tactic to sneak underground. I’m currently tracking it with a magical artifact. Once it surfaces, I’ll capture it alive."
After saying this, Han Li’s voice disappeared, and he rode the flying sword magical artifact, heading gradually toward the swamp’s edge.
Hearing this, Senior Brother Wang was filled with a mix of surprise and joy. After calling to the others, they eagerly took to the air following Han Li’s figure.
Kui Huan and the others followed closely behind.
"Junior Brother Ma, is your palm alright?" In the haste, Senior Brother Wang didn’t forget to look back and ask the short and stout youth.
"It’s fine. Luckily, those hairs weren’t poisonous. Just a surface wound," the short and stout youth muttered shamefully as he fell to the rear.
After all, it was his carelessness that allowed the demonic beast to escape — especially after being warned by others.
This made the youth surnamed Ma feel deeply embarrassed.
"Good to hear. Let’s hurry and catch up. Though I don’t know what magical artifact Junior Brother Han is using to track a subterranean demonic fox, we should still follow quickly," Senior Brother Wang forced a smile and said.
Kui Huan nodded repeatedly, amazed.
"But speaking of which," he added, "this Snow Cloud Fox that evolved into a demonic beast is way too clever! Playing dead so convincingly that even Junior Brother Ma couldn’t tell. It really gave us a fright."
Hearing this, the short and stout youth holding his wounded palm blushed furiously.
