Chapter 586: The Visitors
Han Li glanced around; not a single person was in sight. Without hesitation, he slapped his hand on the spiritual beast pouch. A tricolor golddevourer worm silently flew out of the pouch and, under his command as he strained to summon the last thread of his spiritual awareness, shot toward the stone house with a swift “whoosh.”
The worm squeezed through a narrow crack in the stone gate, flattening its body to slip inside.
The room was deathly silent, not a single sound to be heard.
At that moment, Han Li sneered coldly in his heart and without looking back, strode toward his residence.
Just as Han Li rounded a corner, a piercing scream suddenly rang out from the residence of the middle-aged man surnamed Feng.
Han Li pressed his lips together, expressionless, and continued walking back. However, from afar, a clamorous noise began to rise.
Since he had made an enemy of the middle-aged man surnamed Feng, Han Li naturally wanted to take advantage of the remaining magical power and spiritual awareness to cleanly and decisively eliminate this threat.
Otherwise, having this person bearing a grudge would leave him uneasy.
Before he even reached his room, the faint magical power brought by the aura of spiritual communication completely dissipated, and his spiritual awareness could no longer leave his body.
Han Li shook his head slightly, glanced at his residence not far away, and strode inside.
Inside, Mei Ning was lying on her side on the stone bed, breathing gently and rhythmically, sound asleep without him realizing when she had fallen into such a deep slumber.
Han Li was momentarily stunned. Then, looking at her sweet and enchanting sleeping face, he recalled their recent kiss, causing a faint warmth to rise in his heart. But when he saw her slight shiver and the way her body curled up with a bit of chill, he hesitated briefly before picking up a large piece of demonic beast hide from a pile of items on the table and covering her with it.
She seemed to feel the warmth as her once slightly furrowed brows relaxed. Instinctively, she curled the beast hide tighter around herself, still fast asleep.
Han Li couldn’t help but smile quietly at the sight.
It was understandable. Although her constitution far surpassed ordinary people, she was still a woman. The recent ordeal had left her utterly exhausted in both body and mind.
As a result, while waiting for Han Li, she had unknowingly succumbed to sleepiness and fallen into a deep sleep.
After smiling, Han Li did not wake her but instead glanced at the pile of materials on the table, a flicker of interest passing through his eyes.
...
After some unknown amount of time, Mei Ning slowly woke up. Before she could open her beautiful eyes, a faint voice came from beside her ear.
“Fellow cultivator Mei, if you are awake, please get up. These past two days have not been easy, and there are still some preparations to make.”
Upon hearing these words clearly, her face flushed as she sat up, causing the demonic beast hide covering her to slip off naturally.
She was momentarily stunned, then her bright eyes stared blankly toward the source of the voice, her expression tinged with complexity.
Han Li was seated on a chair opposite, tidying a large piece of demonic beast hide. Seeing her awake, he smiled at her.
“I wonder, Miss Mei, if you are skilled in the art of needlework. I have some high-grade fire-element beast hides here. If possible, it would be best to make a few leather garments to wear. That way, it could somewhat resist the dark wind.”
“I can try, but I’ll need some needles and threads,” she replied.
Han Li made no mention of their kiss from yesterday, which slightly eased her embarrassment. Yet, for some unknown reason, a subtle sense of loss lingered in her heart. On the surface, she just blushed faintly and replied,
“These hides are quite tough; only flying needle magical artifacts can barely pierce them. Then we can use these thinner beast sinews to roughly sew them together. After all, we only need to resist the dark wind, so it doesn’t have to be perfect.”
