Chapter 580: Land of Darkness and Shadows

The giant beast seemed to sense danger and let out a loud roar, expelling a blast of icy cold dark wind from its mouth.

The arrows flying straight at it were blown askew by the wind, each instantly coated with a layer of crystal-clear black ice. They fell to the ground before even touching the giant beast’s body.

As for the heavier spears, although they struck the beast's massive body, the fierce wind greatly reduced their lethality, only causing some superficial wounds. This, however, only infuriated the beast further.

Under its rage, the beast’s four eyes suddenly flickered with a blood aura. With a loud bang, some of the hard hairs on its neck stood erect, each one bristling menacingly.

Han Li, watching from the rooftop, was momentarily stunned. Before he could understand the beast's intention, the giant creature lowered its massive head, and the bristling hairs instantly transformed into countless black rays, shooting fiercely toward the stone wall.

The people on the wall seemed to have anticipated this move. Though their faces were tense, they shouted out in unison and raised their various large shields in perfect formation.

The sound of crackling and popping rained down from the shields.

Although the black rays penetrated several inches deep into the shields, most were successfully blocked. However, a few who had gaps in their defense were pierced straight through by the black rays, collapsing against the stone wall, their fate unknown.

Others had no time to worry about their companions’ lives. At the command of one man shouting loudly, another volley of spears and arrows rained down, but most were again blown away by the beast's dark wind.

It seemed only the hard hairs on the beast’s neck could launch those deadly projectiles. Though the beast screamed loudly when speared elsewhere, it could only struggle desperately to get up, without any other form of counterattack.

Meanwhile, the purple mist tentacles firmly bound its legs, never loosening for a moment.

After five or six rounds of repeated ranged attacks, the dark wind from the beast’s mouth rapidly weakened, no longer possessing its initial power.

At this point, the archers and spearmen on the stone wall suddenly intensified their assault, peppering the giant beast’s body with spears so densely that it looked like a spiked porcupine.

Despite this onslaught, the beast appeared only lightly injured, still roaring wildly with unyielding spirit. The enormous black club in its hand swung furiously, pounding the surrounding ground into craters.

Han Li couldn’t help but feel a bit apprehensive at the beast’s thick hide and immense strength.

The villagers, however, seemed to have their own method of dealing with this beast.

Immediately, a group of agile, especially burly men swiftly climbed the stone wall.

They carried nothing but several huge spears, each three to four zhang long, tucked under their arms. Once atop the wall, they raised their spears, made a brief motion, and hurled them forcefully at the giant beast’s massive body.

The sharp whistling sound of the spears slicing through the air made Han Li’s expression change slightly.

Each of these men possessed considerable internal force, effortlessly throwing these giant spears as if they were mere twigs, their power as fierce as that of a powerful crossbow or a strong bow.

Instantly, blood blossomed in bowl-sized splatters all over the beast’s body. Every spear was embedded deeply, pinning the creature firmly to the ground. Its once fierce aura vanished instantly.

Cheers erupted atop the stone wall as everyone breathed a sigh of relief. The purple mist entwining the beast’s legs finally dissipated.

Some eagerly lowered the wooden gate, brandishing swords and knives, ready to finish off the beast, while others began tending to the wounded.

However, before the gate was fully lowered, the beast, which had been bowed with head lowered, suddenly let out a final, deafening roar. With a furious swing of its arm, it hurled its ten-zhang-long giant club with tremendous force.
