A Record of A Mortal's Journey to Immortality

Chapter 579: Giant Beast Attack

Although Han Li and Mei Ning were two unfamiliar faces, the guards only glanced at them briefly without asking any questions. Instead, they gathered excitedly around the others who had gone out, discussing something eagerly. They even had several tall men reveal the fish and shrimp inside their leather bags, eliciting waves of astonished exclamations.

All of this caused Han Li, who was watching coldly from the sidelines, to furrow his brow slightly.

It seemed that fish and shrimp were not very rare here, or perhaps all food was extremely scarce.

Then, Han Li cast his gaze over the entire village.

The whole village was protected by tall stone walls that were exactly the same, guarding the center. All the buildings inside were made of dark stone, mostly simple and rough, many shaped like squares.

But the most eye-catching was the stone platform in the center of the village.

This stone platform was not large, but it stood several times higher than the other houses, reaching thirty or forty zhang in height. From the top of the platform, a faint purple mist was released, covering the entire sky above the village. Whenever a blue lightning bolt fell into the village from the sky, it was immediately absorbed completely by this purple mist.

This purple mist was definitely some kind of magic formation or restriction. However, Han Li did not sense any spiritual energy from the platform; instead, a chilling energy seemed to linger there.

It was important to note that although his spiritual awareness could not leave his body, his sensitivity to spiritual energy was extremely keen. There was no mistake about that.

Han Li couldn’t help but feel extremely suspicious.

Nearby the high platform were several halls taller than ordinary stone houses. At the entrances, some people were pointing and whispering to a lean man and others. One of them shot a sharp glance at Han Li.

Han Li’s heart tightened.

This was the first person with profound internal force he had seen here.

If it were outside, he could easily crush him with a finger and wouldn't even take him seriously. But now, he had to be fully alert to deal with this opponent.

At that moment, the lean man walked over to those people and said something, then turned back and pointed at Han Li and Mei Ning a few times. Their gazes immediately swept over to Han Li.

Han Li remained expressionless, showing no hint of fear. But Mei Ning showed some unease, unsure how they would be treated.

“You two come over for a moment. Several elders of the village want to ask you some questions,” the lean man said, beckoning to Han Li and the woman.

Han Li nodded calmly and took the woman along.

The group then turned and entered the hall behind them, with Han Li following.

“Please have a seat. Since you have arrived here, we are all humans and will naturally do our best to help. But this place is quite different from the outside world. Could you first introduce yourselves? Then I will explain about this place,” said a slightly plump elder with kind eyes, sitting in the center of the hall.

Others sat on either side. One man with narrow eyes and a fierce look—the same man who had glanced at Han Li outside—sat there as well.

His eyes flashed with sharp light, but at that moment he only glanced briefly at Han Li’s face before shifting his gaze to the beauty behind Han Li, silently showing a strange glint in his eyes.

“We have nothing much to say. We just got caught in the ghost mist while at sea, which brought us here. As for our previous identities, what use would they be here? It’s better not to mention them,” Han Li said casually with a calm smile.

Hearing Han Li’s vague answer, the elder chuckled.

He squinted and examined the two several times, then unexpectedly said something that startled Han Li.

“You two are immortal cultivators, aren’t you? There’s no need to hide such an identity,” the elder said. His gaze then fell on the bulging storage pouch at Han Li’s waist.

Han Li’s expression remained unchanged but he stayed silent for a moment.
