Chapter 526: Underlying Currents
The supreme patriarch of dark yin frowned upon hearing the Daoist’s words and cursed inwardly, “Old fox.” Yet, there was no change in his expression whatsoever.
“Brother Qi, you seem to have asked this question more than once. Fellow Daoist Wu has already said that the Han boy suddenly struck with poison inside the Void Heaven Hall, secretly harming the young Sun. That’s why I’m determined to capture him alive and extract his soul to refine it,” the supreme patriarch said coldly after a sharp change in his expression.
“Heh heh! Brother Wu’s words were naturally believed by me when you first came two years ago. But now, after all this time, Brother Wu hasn’t even cared to visit Mysterious Yin Island and has remained here all along. You don’t even bother with the great battle on your alliance’s side. If it was just about avenging your young grandson, do you think I would believe that?” The Daoist shook his head lightly and said dismissively.
“Moreover, in these two years, besides Brother Wu’s sudden visit to our island, the Myriad Law Sect also quietly sent over an elder named Xuanji. In addition, at least two or three other nascent soul stage fellow cultivators with unknown identities have infiltrated this island’s waters under new names. When did Strange Abyss Island become so attractive, drawing the attention of so many experts? It was only a few days ago that I received definite news—they are, like Brother Wu, also searching for that Han boy who deals with insect demons. Don’t tell me, Brother Wu, that these fellow cultivators also seek revenge for the killing of the young Sun!” The Daoist seemed ready to lay his cards on the table, staring fixedly at the supreme patriarch with a half-smile.
The supreme patriarch’s heart jolted, and after a cold flash crossed his face, he fell into silence.
“Brother Wu, there is no need to continue hiding the truth. No matter what big secret the Han boy holds, since so many fellow cultivators know about it now, it makes no difference whether I know or not. It might even be more beneficial if you tell me frankly! Besides, apart from your disciples appearing as insect demons in this area, there are also other cultivators impersonating such beings at various places, obviously trying to muddy the waters,” the Daoist, sensing the supreme patriarch’s hesitation, continued to persuade calmly.
“Hmph! Brother Qi, since you already know so much, why don’t you figure out the mystery yourself instead of asking me?” the supreme patriarch finally replied in an unfriendly tone.
“I believe that even if Brother Wu is unwilling to tell the truth, I can figure out the cause in no more than half a year. But by then, I’m afraid the number of people who know won’t be limited to just my Jade Cloud Sect. I don’t want to see that happen. If so, it’s better to join forces with you now and give it a try,” the Daoist said with no attempt to hide his intentions.
The supreme patriarch’s expression fluctuated for a while.
After lowering his head and pondering for a moment, he finally sighed deeply and smiled wryly in compromise.
“Ahem! It’s not that I wanted to deceive anyone, but at the time, to prevent this secret from leaking, I and a few other fellow cultivators swore by our inner demons not to tell outsiders. However, since Xuanji from the Myriad Law Sect came to track this down, no matter how much Wan Tianming revealed, that itself has broken the oath to some extent. So I have nothing to worry about anymore.”
“That’s right. Brother Wu, do you really care about such oaths? I never bother with that kind of thing. If inner demons were really so effective, cultivators like us who practice side paths and demonic techniques would have mostly died long ago,” the Daoist said with a joyful clap upon hearing the supreme patriarch’s words.
“Although I don’t care for inner demons either, if too many people know about this, I’m afraid we won’t even get a drop of the leftovers,” the supreme patriarch said helplessly.
