Chapter 440: Ghost King (Part 2)

“Soul-Enticing Ghost Sound.”

Without much thought, the immortal maiden Zi Ling immediately recalled this chilling ghost technique that made her heart turn cold.

This spell was the innate talent of a high-level demon ghost. When cast against an opponent with a much lower cultivation base, it would cause their entire bloodstream to reverse, forcing them to uncontrollably dance wildly. It was truly a sinister and underhanded technique unique to Ghost Island!

She had carelessly mistaken the sound she began hearing as a common ghost howl technique, and now she bitterly regretted it.

As she saw herself being compelled step by step to dance forward uncontrollably along with that wailing soul’s cry, Zi Ling was filled with terror.

Just then, a man’s sharp shout—“Hey!”—rang in her ear. The voice was not loud, but it struck her like thunder, causing her soul to tremble. Her legs suddenly went weak and she collapsed to the ground.

But to her delight, she soon regained control over her body. This relief made her heart ease as she gratefully glanced forward.

Because she clearly heard that voice—it was Han Li’s.

“Fellow cultivator Zi Ling! With your cultivation base, as long as you guard your mind, you won’t be vulnerable to this ghost sound infiltration. You were just careless,” Han Li’s steady voice once again sounded in her ear.

Zi Ling’s cheeks flushed slightly as she softly responded with “Mm” before awkwardly standing up from the ground. She then focused her mind and walked toward Han Li.

When she reached behind him, she was surprised to find Han Li standing stock-still, intently gazing forward without blinking.

Following Han Li’s gaze, Zi Ling’s heart tightened.

Not far away, within the ghost mist, thick black fog churned violently. Intermittently, green and red glimmers shone out, while the deep rumbling sound and the ghostly cries that had just caused her so much trouble interwove continuously.

There, the black-robed demon cultivator wielded a fiery red strange hammer, spewing countless blue flames as he tangled endlessly with a vague black ghostly shadow.

That shadow was wrapped in mist; it summoned a thumb-sized green pearl emitting pitch-black chilling yin energy that trapped the black-robed man, gaining the upper hand.

Meanwhile, the so-called “wailing soul beast,” known for “soul-devouring ghost-devouring,” was entangled at a distance by two humanoid ghost creatures covered in green hair.

These two monsters had pointed heads and each wielded a pair of white bone short forks several feet long. Otherwise, they resembled ordinary green-haired zombies. At this moment, they held their bone forks, emitting greenish ghost fire, continuously attacking the wailing soul beast.

The wailing soul beast shot yellow aurora-like light from its nostrils. No matter how fierce the ghost fire was, once caught in the glow, it was completely absorbed into its belly without a trace.

At first glance, the wailing soul beast seemed to hold the upper hand.

Because these two green-haired monsters dared not approach within several feet of the beast, only relying on long-range attacks with the ghost fire from their bone forks, apparently fearing that yellow glow very much.

However, this also meant the wailing soul beast was entangled by the two ghosts and could no longer assist the black-robed man.

“Ghost Yaksha.”

Seeing the two green-haired creatures, Zi Ling gasped out in surprise.

“What? Fellow cultivator Zi Ling knows these two?” Han Li was intrigued but did not turn his head as he asked.

“Most likely. Although it’s my first time seeing them, they look exactly like what’s described in books. This is a very rare type of zombie—one of the few ghost creatures that can move under daylight and roam freely. No wonder they dare approach the wailing soul beast despite its terrifying pressure. Because they have physical bodies, as long as they aren’t struck directly by the beast’s soul-siphoning light at close range, they can restrain it. After all, this wailing soul beast seems shallow in cultivation; besides the soul-siphoning divine light, it possesses no other magical abilities,” Zi Ling explained softly as she stepped forward to stand beside Han Li.
