Chapter 417: Breaking Formation with Formation
"How about this? If Brother Han Li and the Stone Fairy manage to break the grand formation, then you two can each pick one item first from the spoils. We will distribute the rest afterward," Hu Yue said with a somewhat embarrassed expression, hastily pulling Han Li into the conversation, managing to temporarily smooth over the awkward situation.
The tall, thin cultivator surnamed Jian had been standing quietly to the side with a calm expression, not uttering a single word, which made Han Li feel there was something inscrutable about him.
"Daoist Hu, why not bring Brother Han Li and the Stone Fairy over to the formation and see if they really can break it? Otherwise, if the grand formation can’t be broken, all talk is pointless," Jin Qing suggested with a smile.
"Right! This formation is quite tricky. Daoist Jin and I once tried to forcibly attack it for a whole day and night, but we couldn’t break it by external force at all. Instead, we completely exhausted our magical power," Hu Yue agreed, patting her own head anxiously.
So, with no objections from the others and some curiosity, the group rode their magical artifacts and flew toward the belly of the Earthen Mound, eventually stopping near an inconspicuous gentle slope.
"Please look, Daoists. Those areas shrouded in yellow mist are where the formation is located," Hu Yue said solemnly as she pointed to a spot on the slope while hovering in midair.
Actually, Han Li had already clearly seen it without being told: a yellow mist cluster about the size of a square circle lay not far below, crouched like a gigantic monster—dim, heavy, silent, and giving off an unfathomably eerie feeling.
"Hmm! It looks like an earth and wind dual-attribute formation. That’s quite interesting," Stone Butterfly exclaimed excitedly as she immediately brightened upon sensing the formation’s aura.
Prompted by her words, Han Li glanced at her before focusing carefully. Soon, his expression grew serious.
The formation was indeed as she said: a wind and earth attribute formation. At his current level, breaking it was truly tricky.
At that moment, Stone Butterfly slowly descended from the air to the edge of the formation, enthusiastically pulling out some strange magical artifacts to begin testing.
First, she took out a round, disk-shaped artifact. Holding it with one hand, she fired a green beam at the yellow mist, but the beam vanished without a trace as if it had plunged into the sea.
She frowned, then took out a fiery red crystal ball, wiped it a few times with one hand, and sent it flying into the yellow mist.
But this artifact also flashed red a few times before being swallowed by the thick yellow mist.
At this, the female cultivator’s face flushed slightly with embarrassment. She didn’t want to lose face and quickly took out seven or eight more different artifacts to probe the formation.
The result? Except for a yellow bronze mirror, which caused the yellow mist to ripple where it reflected, none of the others had any effect.
Seeing this, Hu Yue, Jin Qing, and the others exchanged glances before flying up the slope to stand behind the woman.
"Stone Fairy, may I give it a try?" After watching for a while, Han Li finally couldn’t help but sigh quietly at her continuous attempts to pull out more artifacts. He asked gently.
"Hmph! Daoist Han, if you have the skill, just show it. I am not stopping you," Stone Butterfly said with some annoyance and embarrassment, showing no favor to Han Li.
Han Li was slightly irritated in his heart.
But he usually did not show anger or joy openly, so he showed no displeasure. Instead, he tapped his storage pouch, and a dozen or so small flags of various colors flew out, circling gently around him.
"Formation flags!" Jin Qing’s sharp eyes immediately exclaimed upon seeing these small banners.
The others looked surprised, not understanding why Han Li wasn’t working to break the formation but instead pulled out these things.
Han Li ignored their startled gazes and pointed at the formation flags.
