Chapter 400: Sanctimonious Facade

ā€œElder Zhao, thank you for waiting! This is Senior Han, the owner of that batch of demonic beast materials!ā€ The woman from the Miaoyin Sect said respectfully to the gray-robed elder as soon as she entered the room.

ā€œOh, Dao Friend Han! Please have a seat. I just brewed a pot of Ice Cloud Spiritual Tea myself. You should have a taste,ā€ the gray-robed elder said calmly as he looked up and glanced at Han Li.

Han Li frowned slightly. The elder’s appearance was nothing special, except his cheeks were unusually red, as if he had just recovered from a serious illness. This sparked a trace of suspicion in Han Li’s mind.

With his spiritual awareness far stronger than cultivators of the same level, Han Li instantly identified that the elder was a cultivator in the early foundation formation stage.

So, he didn’t say anything to decline and directly sat opposite the elder, but discreetly glanced at the cup of fragrant tea the elder had just poured, without reaching out to take it.

Although the elder didn’t seem to have any ill intent, Han Li’s habit of caution made him unwilling to drink anything in unfamiliar places.

Seeing Han Li’s cautious demeanor, the elder didn’t show any displeasure, only smiling faintly as he poured himself a small cup and began drinking. It seemed, for that moment, he had set Han Li and the others aside from his mind.

ā€œSenior Han! This time I represent the Miaoyin Sect to seek out the remaining demonic beast materials you have. The price is negotiable,ā€ Fan Jingmei said gracefully and elegantly to Han Li, her red lips parting slightly as she spoke.

ā€œI did have some demonic beast materials before, but the last batch was just sold. I’m afraid you will be disappointed,ā€ Han Li replied calmly, unwilling to reveal that he still had many rare materials. He wanted to cut off the conversation there.

Madam Fan smiled sweetly upon hearing Han Li’s refusal and spoke warmly, ā€œSenior Han, you’re deceiving me a little! Although our sect doesn’t know exactly how many materials you still have, you must have quite a lot. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be so careful selling them to small-time merchants one bit at a time, each time to different buyers.ā€

ā€œIf we hadn’t been searching for related materials throughout Tianxing City, we might never have noticed this peculiarity. You’re afraid of revealing your wealth, right? If that’s the case, Senior Han, you can put those worries aside. Our sect may not be a great force, but our reputation across the Chaotic Star Sea has always been good. You can sell all those materials to me directly, which will save us the trouble of collecting them little by little from other small merchants!ā€

The woman smiled broadly as she spoke at length, looking extremely composed, but a cold light flashed through Han Li’s eyes, revealing a hint of anger.

No one would be happy to find out they were being investigated secretly without their knowledge!

Perhaps sensing Han Li’s displeasure, Madam Fan suddenly changed her tone and explained, ā€œSenior Han, please don’t blame my rashness earlier. It was because the matter is urgent that I had to mobilize most of our sect’s forces in Tianxing City to track down what’s on your person. I sincerely hope you can help me this once!ā€

As she said this, the woman put herself in a vulnerable position, her words and gaze revealing a subtle plea.

Hearing this, Han Li’s anger gradually faded.

He said nothing immediately but tapped his finger lightly on the tea table, his expression blank.

In truth, Han Li’s mind was racing, quickly analyzing the pros and cons.

Though he didn’t know why this woman or the Miaoyin Sect urgently needed so many demonic beast materials, they obviously believed he had what they wanted. Denying it would only make enemies for no reason.

He had never heard of the Miaoyin Sect before, but judging by Elder Zhao, their strength shouldn’t be weak.

Han Li didn’t want to make enemies lightly.
