Chapter 344: Grand Formation Exterminates the Demonic Beast
Han Li didn’t bother to carefully study those scattered fragments. Instead, after searching the nearby area thoroughly and confirming that nothing was left behind, he began to consider how to handle the giant mantis.
He was not about to let this demonic beast go. After all, even without considering other parts, its forelimbs were definitely rare and excellent materials for forging magical artifacts in the immortal cultivation world.
As for capturing and taming the beast alive, Han Li thought about it briefly and then abandoned the idea.
He knew very well that any demonic beast that could be controlled by cultivators had been placed under a restriction from a young age and gradually tamed. Attempting to claim a powerful spiritual beast that wasn’t raised by oneself was nothing but a pipe dream.
Even the cultivator from the Imperial Spirit Sect lost control of the giant mantis because he lost his physical body and became someone else. Otherwise, once such a beast was fully tamed, it would be loyal for life, more faithful than any human.
Regarding the idea of informing the allied forces of the Seven Sects, Han Li thought it over and still couldn’t be sure whether the cultivator’s words were true or false. So, he decided to stay here for a few more days and observe the situation first.
After all, his speed was fast enough that even if he was delayed by a few days, he could still arrive at the Seven Sects’ main camp on time.
Therefore, Han Li spent a day quietly setting up the Inverted Great Five Elements Formation in the dense forest not far from the cave.
This time, unlike the hurried partial formation he had set up during the Imperial Palace battle, he completed the entire grand formation. Naturally, its power was incomparably greater than before.
During this period, he saw the giant mantis venture out to hunt once.
To Han Li’s amazement, it returned with a huge black tiger.
This was the first time Han Li had ever seen a black tiger. It was obviously not an ordinary beast.
Unfortunately, such a strange species falling prey to the giant mantis could only serve as a sumptuous meal.
After preparing his perfect plan, Han Li stealthily entered the cave at noon.
But within moments, he rapidly flew out on his Divine Wind Boat, heading straight toward the grand formation.
The shadow chasing closely behind him was, of course, the giant mantis disturbed by Han Li.
Since the formation was set up very close by, as soon as Han Li flew out of the cave, he immediately entered the formation’s area of effect. The mantis, though intelligent, had no understanding of formations and was easily trapped.
During the next two days, Han Li allowed the giant mantis to run wildly within the Inverted Five Elements Formation, making full use of the formation’s illusion technique to confine it within a few acres.
After two days, when the beast was exhausted and wanted to lie down without moving, Han Li released numerous puppets outside the formation to continually harass it, preventing any rest.
This mantis was the kind with extremely high attack but average defense, so it dared not allow the puppets to get close and had to constantly use its two mantis arms to protect its entire body.
As a result, after only half a day, the beast could no longer hold on and began to be hit by the puppets. Although the wounds were minor, it was clear that its stamina was almost depleted. Meanwhile, Han Li had rotated the spirit stones powering the puppets five or six times.
Seeing the time was right, Han Li unleashed the talisman treasure in his hand—a small yellow dagger with a handle—and under the puppets’ cover, pierced the giant mantis’s head, killing it within the formation.
With the mission accomplished, Han Li couldn’t hide his excitement as he approached the beast’s corpse and took out his silver Greatsword. He carefully cut off the mantis's extremely sharp forelimbs in one piece.
Then, full of hope, he began to search the mantis’s abdomen bit by bit.
