Chapter 303: Shock

Although the five friends of Mengshan were greatly surprised by Han Li’s decision, they also felt that what he said made some sense, so they did not object.

However, when the middle-aged woman curiously asked about the true identities of the two members of the Black Death Cult, Han Li brushed her off with a vague answer. He simply smiled faintly and said that everyone would know when the operation began at night.

This made the middle-aged woman reluctant to press further, and she showed a nonchalant expression.

Not long after, Qin Ping, carrying a message from Qin Yan, led the five friends of Mengshan to another nearby courtyard and settled them there.

As Han Li watched their departing figures, a strange expression flickered across his eyes. He suddenly muttered something under his breath, but no one could catch what he said.

That night, after everyone had eaten, the five friends of Mengshan gathered in the living room of Qingyin Courtyard, preparing to start their mission at the deep hour Han Li had mentioned.

“Strange! Why just can’t I remember?” The thirty-something young man, Fourth Brother, paced back and forth in the room, his face full of confusion.

“Fourth Brother! Still can’t recall?” The youngest young woman sat lazily in a chair, wearing a half-smile.

“You always say that Senior Han looks familiar, that you must have met him somewhere before. But you can’t possibly remember when or where. It makes me not believe you so much. Maybe you just want to build a connection with Senior Han so badly that you’re imagining things!” Her words were clearly teasing.

“Hmm, that’s quite possible. After all, Senior Han’s appearance is pretty ordinary; it’s normal that Fourth Brother feels he looks familiar!” The tall and skinny Second Brother sipped fragrant tea, jokingly adding.

However, his eyes never left the middle-aged woman beside him, scanning back and forth between her still charming face and her seemingly normal abdomen, his expression full of happiness.

But the middle-aged woman, ranked third among them, was annoyed by his gaze. She rolled her eyes at him sharply, but all she got in return was his silly chuckle. His usual sharp and deep demeanor seemed to have vanished completely.

“Hmph, say whatever nonsense you want. As long as I’m sure I’ve met him before. But it must not have been recently; it should be a long time ago. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have forgotten so thoroughly.” The young man glared at the young woman and the tall man with some reluctance.

“A long time ago? Fourth Brother, we’ve been cultivating hard in Mengshan for years without leaving the mountain. How could you have met Senior Han? Did you see him when you were still wearing open-crotch pants?” The middle-aged woman teased him with a smile.

“Third Sister, you...” The young man blushed red, embarrassed by her words.

“Fourth Brother wasn’t always cultivating in the mountain those years. Don’t you remember? Before we met Fifth Sister, we attended an Ascension Immortal Conference once. That took us away for two or three months, but unfortunately, we all returned defeated—though luckily, none of us were seriously injured!” The Black-Faced Elder interjected calmly.

“What! Everyone attended the Ascension Immortal Conference?” Fifth Sister blinked, curious. But Second Brother and the middle-aged woman showed bitter smiles.

“There’s nothing to say about it. That was the first time we realized how narrow our world truly was,” the middle-aged woman sighed.

“What! Fourth Brother, tell me about it! At that time... huh!” The young woman’s curiosity increased. She turned to the young man, wanting him to talk about the Ascension Immortal Conference, but what she saw was a face full of shock.

“Fourth Brother, what’s wrong?” The others noticed the young man’s odd expression and asked in surprise.

“Second Brother, do you still remember when we parted ways with Big Brother and Third Sister at the Ascension Immortal Conference? I once, on a whim, secretly stole some wine and dishes from a restaurant in Jiayuan City, didn’t I?” The young man didn’t answer their questions but suddenly brought up an old incident, which puzzled the tall man.
